What is E-Commerce? Electronic Commerce, commonly known as (electronic marketing) e-commerce or eCommerce, consists of the buying and selling of products or services over electronic systems such as the Internet and other computer networks. Some common applications related to electronic commerce are the following: Email Enterprise content management Instant messaging Newsgroups Online shopping and order tracking Online banking Online office suites Domestic and international payment systems Shopping cart software Teleconferencing Electronic tickets Is e-commerce the same as e-business? While some use e-commerce and e-business interchangeably, they are distinct concepts. In e-commerce, information and communications technology (ICT) is used in inter-business or inter-organizational transactions (transactions between and among firms/organizations) and in business-to-consumer transactions (transactions between firms/organizations and individuals). In e-business, on the other hand, ICT is used to enhance one’s business. It includes any process that a business organization (either a for-profit, governmental or non-profit entity) conducts over a computer-mediated network. A more comprehensive definition of e-business is: “_The transformation of an organization’s processes to_ Is the Internet economy synonymous with e-commerce and e-business? The internet and computer-based technology generated electronic business we call it E-business or E-commerce. J. 2004). These days E-business is growing at an incredible speed and it makes today’s business environment become more challenging, competitive, rapidly changing and complex than ever before. As more organizations understand the importance of E-business concepts, the prefix E- may more frequently appear in our life. Whether we want it happen or not, E-business affects every organization. It is impossible to hide from its impact or influence in the marketplace. All indication shows that E-business will continue to grow, so many organizations may find themselves either having to go online or go out of business (Trepper, C. 2000). The change of business environment forces the leadership of an organization to face variable challenges.
