A Weekend at the Beach
Descriptive Essay - At The Beach

Everyone has a place where they go to escape all the pressures and worries of life. There is always that one spot that can soothe all your problems and troubles in times of stress. For me, the beach is the ultimate cure to all of my problems. While I am there, all of my obligations are suddenly erased.

As I stroll along I can feel the soft smooth sand beneath my feet. I am taken in by the soothing atmosphere that encircles me. I close my eyes, letting myself absorb the blistering rays of the sun on a scorching summer day. I am comforted by the sounds of the ocean; the rhythmic pounding of the waves represses all of my worries. I look into the cloudless cerulean blue sky and see the perfection of life. I often want to be like a seagull, seemingly drifting endlessly in the wind without a care in the world. As I sit in my chair I can see all the sights of summer; children building sand castles along the oceans edge, to my right I observe an elderly couple indulged in a good book. I am soon at the point where my skin can no longer take the harsh rays of the blistering summer sun. I run as fast as my feet can carry me toward what my body sees as Utopia, a seemingly endless pool of crystal blue water. I dive into the crashing waves head first. The shock of the frigid water takes my breath away and I am momentarily stunned. However, I quickly recover; finding my body adjusts rapidly to the cold water. Floating peacefully among the waves, I am unaware of the impending waves that are soon to break over me. Crash! A monstrous wave has just overtaken me; its force knocks me to the sandy bottom of the ocean. I am refreshed and awakened as I am carried back to shore. Exhausted, I return to my peaceful spot on the beach. I quickly find myself once again baking under the warmth of the summer sun.

Now that I am relaxed, I allow myself to close my eyes and drift off for a peaceful nap. I am soon awoken but the sounds of birds scurrying about for food along the shore line. I open my eyes, and to my surprise, the setting sun hangs in the sky like a red-orange balloon off in the distance. I find myself alone on the beach. The surf has ceased to crash on the shores, the placid waves gently roll onto the sand. The sky is transformed into a colorful horizon; filled with endless streams of purple and blue.

As the daylight falls to the darkness of night I can feel the change in temperature on my skin. A chilly mist can be felt in the wind blowing off the calm sea. On my walk back along the sand I am reminded of those obligations that have evaded me on my peaceful journey. Tomorrow brings school and work; however, I am not the least upset. I do not see Monday as the start of a long week of arduous work; I see it as a countdown. Six more days until I can once again be escorted off to the place where all the pressures and worries of life seem to just disappear.

It was nearly sunset and I was relaxing along the soothing beach in Capitola, California. My brother and sister were assembling sand and shells to make a colossal sand city while my parents were in two chairs chatting. As I was ambling down the oceanfront my feet would feel the chilly waves and I could sense the gentle wind blowing my way. I was reminiscing about the exciting activities previously that day, including swimming through the waves, body surfing, and passing around a volleyball with my brother.…

She struggles against the ripping force of the ocean current. Her arms are quickly tiring from swimming against it. She relaxes, letting her muscles fall limp. Within seconds, she is pushed out to sea. The people on the beach are so small, little tiny ants against a white sand backdrop. The tall condo skyscrapers are now tiny Lego buildings. The kids hollering and music blasting on the beach is faded like a distant memory. She will die out here, she’s sure of it. Her daughter won’t have a mother’s hand to hold when learning to walk. Her husband will be left a widower, forever broken by the loss of his love. She closes her eyes and accepts her fate as she drifts further out to sea. She floats for a long while, the salinity in the water steadily…

The wave was murky coming towards like a rigid and supreme barrier. It began to coil over, he looked up the wave loomed over him. His father’s words came back to him giving him an urge of determination “a true mariner never deserts a sinking ship.” It heaved itself onto his boat. The boat shredded apart, jagged pieces of timber where floating and he was left sinking. His boat had plunged into the depths of the enigmatic ocean. The salted sea pricked at his delicate eyes and his spectral face white washed. He was crawling for breath kicking his feet neurotically. He managed to clench onto a residue of his boat his naked fingers scratching the plank and splinters dashing up his finger nails. For him time felt suspended. His clothes saturated with water clinging on and sticking onto his skin. He was wrinkling like a prune. He had a vacant expression, solitude was conquering him. He had to overcome this despair as the turbulence of the storm…

The sand scorched our feet like steaks on a fiery grill. I had brought the Rock along to join me for a surfing lesson. We snatched our wetsuits and our boards and hit the waves. The ocean water sends a chilling sensation through my body. The polar water feels like a steamy shower after a long day, calming and relaxing. The waves are monstrous and intimidating, however, I seem to ride them effortlessly like I had done it a million times before. I dash past the Rock and under a curling wave. In the waves there are vividly colored fish swimming in schools. The water is so translucent that one can easily see the ocean floor, and the coral and seaweed that lay on…

Immediately upon arrival I headed to the beach and buried my feet in the gleaming hot white sand. I stood on the edge of this breathtaking tropical island and saw water so blue, that it more resembled liquid sapphire. The ocean's salt stained breeze kissed my skin only enough to askew my hair and soften the mandarin orange suns heat. The ocean was like a cool rejuvenating enveloping blanket. Staggered black jetties stretched like fingers into the deep blue water offering the gulls something to bask in the sun on.…

The baby waves nipped playfully at my toes, tempting, teasing and alluring me to enter the serene, expanse of inviting water. Waves of a deep sapphire blue crept towards me before running away yet again, only to repeat the process in a cycle that causes droplets of salty water to spray onto my bare, sand encrusted feet. I took a minute to acknowledge the beautiful sunset. Smudges of coral, topaz, turquoise and fiery orange blended together to create a sight so astounding it swept me away from the day. As my thoughts ceased, the golden rays glazed my skin and a warm feeling of safety and security overwhelmed me as the sun dipped down below the…

As Bethany Hamilton once said, "Being out there in the ocean, God's creation, is like a gift he has given us to enjoy." The smell of grilled hot dogs lingered in the hot, Summer air from the boardwalk, and I smiled because I knew that it was going to be a wonderful day. To begin, I ran towards the luscious, majestic waves as they kissed the shoreline. For example, the waves came crashing down onto the sand with such a powerful force. As I began to run closer to the ocean, my feet touched the jewel- blue water, making my body shiver. Next, I looked around the crowded beach at all of the kids playing, noticing how much fun they were having. For instance, I could hear the waves splashing and the children playing on this hot Summer day. The sand…
