A Special Person in My Life

My Mother is an awesome woman. She always saw the good in everything. She is a very exceptional person. A fighter. She has worked very hard her entire life then it all came to an end May 2012. When I was little one my mother worked nights at a factory, and my father drove truck. Until my sister was old enough to stay home and watch me, we went to our grandmas and stayed. My mother had an outgoing personality, but she also had many other personalities. What mother doesn’t? Most of all she is a very understanding woman. You couldn’t ask for a better person. She worked several different jobs while I was growing up. The last job she worked was Dollar General. She started off just being a sales clerk in 2003. Then a few years later she became store manager. My opinion you couldn’t ask for a better manager. There were days she worked open to close, because one of the employees couldn’t make it in. she was working on her seventh or eighth year when she started having problems. Her lower back started hurting bad and legs were starting to swell. She had been to the doctor several times, but all they kept giving her was pain pills. The doctor said he would order an MRI and never did. After messing with this doctor for about six months to a year, my sister and I got tired of her hurting all the time and found a new doctor. A better doctor at that. She treated mom a lot better. Mom explained what was going on, and within a week she had and MRI scheduled for her. The MRI came back showing something on her kidney. So following that they done a biopsy. We had to wait at least two weeks before we found out the results. It wasn’t good news. The spot on her right kidney came back as cancerous. It ended up being a three inch mass. We went to doctors after doctors to see what would be best for her. After seeing several doctors and running more test they had found more cancer. Three spots on her skull (not her brain). Some on her spine

Before client A was diagnost there where a few events leading up to this condition. Client A was having alot of gallbladder problems, as well as having a hernia on her right abdomin side. After seeing the doctor she had to have her gallbladder removed in the 90s due to gain green, which is an infection. She did also have a mesh done on her hernia, which led to surgery but has not gone away. she still deals with the hernia which is still protruding again. Because of having two surgreys done it has effected her kidneys and now one kidney has shriveld up and is being looked at to eventually be removed. Before actually being diagnost with stomatch cancer, she wasnt feeling well, her skin started to take on a yellowish pale color. she started noticing she was having a much difficultier time breathing. She was having such a hardb time breathing that it got to the point where she could hardly stand or even walk two feet without feeling the sensation of passing out. She started to notice she was always feeling exhausted, she never had any evergy, and was loosing weight significantly. she felt she was exhausted beyond belief from not doing any activity. Finally she decided to go to the doctors because she was getting worried. The doctors found that she was very anemic and had been suffering from a significant amou nt of blood loss with no open wounds. The doctor decided to infuse her with bags of bloood to the the anemia under control. the doctor felt it was best to do a MRI first and secondly a pet scan to find out what was causeing such a significant amout of blood loss. After the testing the doctor noticeds that there was a grey shadow in the pet scan in her abdomin area. They continued to do more testing and found that it was cancer of the stomatch.…

Elke found out that she had cancer when she was only about 25 years old, age does not matter to cancer, and it does not discriminate. The thought of watching her go through this at such a young age was just unimaginable. I have learned to start being more aware of my own health, after seeing her have to fight so hard, I had no choice. With the history of cancer in my family and what she went through, I decided to be proactive and the day after she passed away I went for a mammogram because the earlier cancer is detected, the better the outcome. I have an appointment to have a hysterectomy, and have had many MRIs to scan for migraine problems and check for cancer. Elke battling so hard just opened my eyes to see how fast things can happen and with no warning. She had to go through many tests, chemotherapy, and she was sick all of the time. The medications and chemotherapy and radiation break down the immune system and made her more susceptible to other illnesses. I didn’t want to have to go through all of that, it was awful to watch her go through it, but she did and…

I am her oldest child. I remember that young woman with a quick temper who could yell when she needed to. Now having my own children, I know that no one sees your worst sides like your children do. But I also watched her change, with the death of her own parents when she was in her 20’s, through the loss of a son, and through her battles with cancer. With each sorrow, mum grew in wisdom and strength, she reached out in ways that I am only still becoming aware of. She spoke with other mothers who lost sons and daughters, she knew the pain, she knew how awful that could be, and she knew how to comfort, hug, and cry with those who had lost one of their own. Through that loss she gained a different perspective on being a mother. She learned that love speaks louder than anger and that some things are not worth the fight. It’s a grandmother’s wisdom – and I hope and pray that I listened enough to take those lessons so hard learned to heart. When mum and dad found out last year that the cancer was terminal, that the cancer that we had hoped, prayed and believed was defeated had come back. She knew where she was going, and that she would see Wilder, my brother, again. That she would fight as hard as she…

On March 2016, I get a call from my mom saying "get to the hospital now." I kept asking "what's going on," but she kept ignoring my question. "Your grandmother is getting chemotherapy. Just get to the hospital as fast as you can." Chemo? But she's been cancer free for 4 years, why is she having chemo again? I race to the hospital, she's in surgery getting chemo implanted into her spine, and all of my family's eyes are red, they've been crying. My mom sits me down and tells me that even though 2 months before, she was claimed to be cancer free, it has spread into her spinal fluid. The doctor told us she would have 6 months if she was lucky. The cancer in her cerebral spinal fluid was building up on her brain and causing pressure. A few days…
