A Research on the Seat of the First Philippine Givernment: Casa Real
INTRODUCTION OF THE STUDY
You can feel the heart and soul of the country in Bulacan, "The Gateway to the Northern Philippines". Bulacan prides itself for its rich historical heritage. The province figures prominently in Philippine History. Many national heroes and political figures were born in Bulacan. The province was also one of the first to revolt against Spain. The province is honored as one of the 8 rays of the sun in the national flag. It is the home of the "Three Republics."
A trip to Bulacan can never be complete without visiting Casa Real de Malolos, definitely one of Bulacan’s prides. Casa Real housed various offices, institutions and agencies at a span of time. The building housed the National Printing Press during the First Philippine Republic. It was also on this that the La Independencia, The Heraldo, and Ang Kaibigan ng Bayan (The Friend of the People), was printed. It is a government museum consisting of relics from the First Philippine Republic. Memorabilia's of Gen. Emilio Aguinaldo are also found here. First class families of Malolos, their furniture, old books, stamps, paper money and coin are also displayed in the Shrine.
When the Americans captured Malolos, Casa Real became the seat of their Military Government. It was turned into a hospital in 1923 until it survived from demolition on 1965 due to the pleading for its preservation. It was 1980 that Casa Real rose again with elegant Spanish features. The reconstructed Casa Real is proposed to be converted into a Municipal Library and Museum of Malolos, to be the final repository of still existing priceless memorabilia of our historic past. Truly, Casa Real is one of the structures in Malolos every Maloleños should be proud of.
