A Day I Wish I Hadn't Experienced
A day that I wish I hadn’t experienced was October 28, 2005. On that day, I had to have surgery on my palate. The surgeon cut open the top of my mouth and lengthened it a half an inch which is called a z-plasty. I had the surgery because when I was younger I had a clarity problem with my speech. The first reason why I wish I didn’t have to experience October 28, 2005 is that I had to go under anesthesia. Because of this, I threw up blood a lot during my recovery. My recovery was three weeks. The second reason why I wish I didn’t have to experience October 28, 2005 is that I had to eat soft foods for six weeks. I had to give up any hard candy, pizza and anything crunchy. I didn’t like some of the foods that I had to eat because they were pureed. But I became so hungry that pureed foods were satisfying, at the time. A third reason why I wish I didn’t have to experience October 28, 2005 is that I had to miss Halloween. In our younger years, missing Halloween was not fun. It meant not dressing up and not going trick or treating for candy. Although, I already couldn’t have candy but I would have gone trick or treating if I could. So as you can see, this is a day that I wish I hadn’t experienced. However, my speech has gotten much better since then. If I had the chance to do it again I probably would, despite all of the negative events that happened, just to make my voice easier to understand!

On November 12, 2015 I made a heartfelt decision and it changed my life for the next two years. I have never been an open person, I am more reserved and shy, for when I was a nino, my peers used to pick on me. Growing up in a strict household, I held in the emotion and decided to use it as motivation. As I grew up, the members of los chicos malos always made sure I was taken care of, life in Sunnyside became more manageable with them on my side. The day of November 12th will…

That was the day that my grandpa passed away. Every single part of that date is engrained in my memory. My parents had driven up to Wisconsin, and my older sister Lauren drove home for college to stay with me. It wasn’t out of the normal for my parents to quickly leave, so I didn’t think much of it. I remember going to hang out with Tatum, my best friend of the time. It was a nice day outside, so of course we were outside playing on the trampoline and doing all our weird routines like we always did. Her family, who was like a second family to me, decided to go out to eat so they brought me along. We went to La Charitas. I remember how Mrs. Teeple pulled out a funny card game for us to play, and I remember Tatum cutting out faces in her tortilla, making us all laugh. When we got back to the house we saw that my sister called, so I said bye to the Teeples and walked one minute down the road to my house. Lauren, who is one of the most emotional in the family, was left with the task of telling me that my grandpa had passed away. I had just grabbed a snack of chocolate cheerios as she started to tell me the news. I didn’t know how to react, so I ran into the basement directly to the furthest corner I could find. Lauren tried talking to me, but I wanted to be by myself. One of the hardest things I have ever done was talking to my dad on the phone after finding out. He called to tell me the plans, that he was coming home to get us, and…

Friday, October 24th was the day I almost died. I got in a life-threatening car accident. My seatbelt saved my life. If I didn’t have my seatbelt on when I wrecked I would be dead even with medical attention. I swerved to prevent a wreck between the black suv, the other car involved in the accident at fault, and myself by swerving. Swerving may not have been the best idea because I lost control of the car and ended up, upside down in a ditch with a completely missing window, a caved in roof that would have collapsed on my head if I was a tiny bit taller, a cracked all over windshield, a demolished side mirror barley attached to the car, a lot of dents, out of place tires, bits of glass inside the car, and broken inside mirrors.…

I remember the day well. I was just finished with school for the year and sitting on the front step, the top half of me laying back on the porch, just staring. I was thinking about the small house my mother worked so hard for us to get and keep. We lived in row housing just outside Juneau Alaska. All of the houses were small and I always thought to myself, “Is this the life I am destined for?” My mind wondered as I looked up at the clouds and squinted because of the sun.…

I felt like I was about to present my grandfather's life in a very vivid way, and show how great of a person he was. Still, there a few things I wish I would have done differently. One thing I would have changed was telling the story about my grandpa’s condition at this point in his life. In my speech, I only said the doctors told him he had few hours left in his life but he overcame this issue. I didn’t give much explanation to what was happening during this occurrence. Instead, I should have talked about he had a blood clot in his leg and they thought he would need his leg amputated, but he couldn’t do a surgery. Luckily, the clot wasn’t as bad as they expected, and he was able to go home. Like every speech I’ve done this year, I also wish I would have used more gestures during the course of my speech. This helps the audience understand my message and keeps them involved. I also think I could have started the speech in a more capturing way. Truly, I’m very content with how things went in my speech, but like anything, there always some improvement that can be…

I will remember that day as the day that I will use as an example of why the world needs to change. I remember that day as the moment I can remember to allow myself to cry. I will remember that day as the day I realized what the world had become. I will remember that day as the day I became angry at the world for allowing someone to do something of that sort. I will remember that day as the day I realized how hurt others must feel if I couldn't even hold myself together. I will remember that day as the day I took no pictures and didn’t write about my experience immediately after. I will remember that as the day that I took the harshness of reality in, and realized how much I yearned to change it. I will remember that day as the day that I felt more helpless than ever before. I will remember that day as the day that I sat in an empty car for ten minutes trying to control myself. I will remember that day as the day I will never forget. I will remember that day as the day that broke me, in order to make me. I will remember that day as the start of the story I will tell others when they ask why I am doing what I am doing. I will remember that day as the second most memorable day of my life, the second most emotionally painful day of my life. I will remember that day as the day I decided I will not let the world become worse than it is. I will remember that day…

January 13th, 2015, feels as if it was yesterday. It was the day I lost one of my best friends and a day I wish never happened. It all began as I was walking back to school with my friends from Walgreens, I got a call from my dad telling me “You need to run home and get your Carhartt and some gloves and a hat because Prince is sick and you might be out here for a while. My day was going on like any other day; everything was the same until the phone rang. I picked up the phone and all I heard was crying on the other end. I instantly got worried and asked frantically what was wrong, but the upset parent just kept sobbing while trying to explain what had happened. It took a minute for me to decipher what it was she was saying, but once I had figured it out it hit me hard in the chest. My best friend had been admitted into the hospital for seizures. I begged everyone I knew with a license to drive me down to see her. It didn’t take too long before someone gave in and agreed to drive me. We left for Cincinnati as soon as we could leave, the five hour drive seemed like an eternity of worry and distress, but finally we made it to the hospital.…
