Throughout the years, the food industry has incorporated traditional methods as well as adaptations to a changing society. Fast food, for example, has grown exponentially over the past half century. By contrast, traditional foods such as rice remain a crucial part of food culture. Two essays that highlight this contrast are Seanon Wong’s “Noodles vs. Sesame Seed Buns” and Julie Dash’s “Rice Culture.” Wong’s essay illustrates the significance of fast food, whereas Dash’s essay discusses traditional cooking methods. When expanding into another country or a new country there are differences in the way meals are prepared and what the culture as a whole prefers as far as ingredients and overall taste. In our study one of the hypotheses is that in order to be successful in the Brazilian market we will need to add more fresh ingredients to our meals as well as adding spices or other ingredients that are common in Brazilian menus. Our second hypothesis is that our overall atmosphere including décor and music will need to be changed according to the Latin culture. American Cuisine has benefited from an infusion of cultural influences. Primary among these is the indigenous cuisines of its various immigrant groups. This melding of cuisine and culture has resulted in a diverse and vibrant cuisine, taking from the host culture, transposing it, and incorporating its essence into the whole. This melding, however can lead to the loss of culture, as it pertains to the host culture. As the identities of these groups are incorporated into the adopted culture, the original can get watered down, if not lost completely. The loss of this culture would be tragic.
