A comparative study between bleach and kalamansi (Citrofortunella microcarpa) in removing stain.

Introduction:

Calamondin or Kalamansi is a fruit tree in the family Rutaceae and a member of citrofortunella that was developed in and is very popular throughout Southeast Asia, Especially the Philippines, where it is most commonly used for cooking. It is a shrub or small tree growing to 3-6 m, and bears small citrus fruit used to flavor foods and drinks. It also gives people extra income because kalamansi is everywhere and you can plant it Anywhere than buying bleach in convenient store. Most importantly kalamansi do not have high quality of chemical.

The tree has upright branches with very few thorns and can grow up to 10 feet high. Its 3-inch evergreen leaves are broadly oval and pale green below like those of the kumquat. Its flowers are white and small. The 1 3/4 inch-wide fruit is small, depressed, globes and deep orange-yellow when ripe, loose-skinned and, segmented. The pulp is very acidic. Mature fruit can be produced year round. It is said that it is an acid citrus, a group that includes lemons and limes. The flesh is orange, juicy and acid, with a fine lime-orange flavor

Objectives / Problems

The main aim of this study is to make a comparative study between bleach and kalamansi. To determine the efficiency of CALAMANSI as an important product in removing stains.
It specially attempts to answer the following research objectives: 1. To determine the effectiveness of kalamansi in removing stain. 2. To make an alternative stain removal for white t-shirts. 3. To produce a stain removal that is user friendly.

Hypothesis

1. There is significant on using calamansi as stain remover in washing white clothes.

2. There is no significant on using calamansi as stain remover in washing white clothes.

Significance of the study This study aims to help the society in their problems economically and

The overall objective of this experiment is to determine the mass percent of NaClO, sodium chloride, in standard bleach. The purpose of part 1, is to standardize Sodium Thisulfate, Na2S2O3, with the primary standard Potassium Iodate, KIO3. The standardized Na2S2O3 will then be used in Part 2, to help determine the mass percentage of sodium chloride in bleach. The chemical equation used in standardizing sodium thisulfate is, IO3- (aq) + 5I- (aq) + 6H+(aq) ---> 3I2 + 3H2O followed by I2 (aq) + 2 S2O3-2 (aq) ---> 2I- (aq) + S4O6-2 (aq). This reaction shows that when KIO3 and KI are combined under high acidity, I- is oxidized by IO3- and forms I2. Once sodium thisulfate is added to the mixture, I2 is reduced to I-, once again. Once all of the iodide is used up in the reaction, the liquid will changed from brown/yellow to clear. This means that the solution has reached an equivalence point. Since I2 changes the color of the solution, it will be used as an indicator in the titration experiment. In part 2 of the experiment, Na2S2O3 is used to determine the mass percent of NaClO in bleach. The reaction related to this part is as follows: ClO- (aq) +…

The advantages of using bleach as a disinfectant is strong and effective disinfectant. Its active ingredient, sodium hypochlorite, denatures protein in micro-organisms and is therefore effective in killing bacteria, fungus, and viruses. Household bleach works quickly and is widely available at a low cost. The disadvantage is could irritates mucous membranes, the skin, and the airway. It also decomposes under heat or light and reacts readily with other chemicals. Bleach solutions begin to lose its effectiveness after 2 hours. You will need to make a fresh solution for each experiment.…

This experiment investigated the effects of bleach and dye on the tensile strength of hair. The hypothesis stated that the healthy, untouched hair would be able to hold the heaviest amount of weight. The dyed hair would hold more weight than the bleached hair, but less than the normal hair. The bleached hair would be the weakest, holding the least amount of weight. The results supported this hypothesis. This is because the strong chemicals that were applied to the hair, penetrated, stripped and changed the hair’s natural composition. This in the end weakened the hair, giving the results that were found. This experiment could be improved in many ways for more accurate results, such as using a smaller weight like rice and measuring the tape and…

Bleach has two forms: chlorine bleach and non-chlorine bleach. Chlorine bleaches work faster and more effectively than non-chlorine bleaches, which is why it became so popular. So when people say bleach, they usually mean chlorine bleaches. Now bleach - in scientific terms - is a kind of catalyst. A catalyst is a chemical that increases the reaction rate of a chemical reaction (catalyse), and the chemical reaction involves enzymes. So to understand how bleach works, we first understand how enzymes work.…

Bleach originated from ancient Egyptians, Romans, and Greek cultures. In ancient European culture, there were many different kinds of clothing and each of them portrayed social status (Wircher). Most of commoners who could not afford all the luxuries wrapped around their bodies with handmade two pieces of long garments and made their clothes look more dangling. By making them loose, it seemed like they were wearing a lot of layers of clothings which made them look more opulent, “The common clothing in this time period were mostly white because they believed the color white represented a color of god's’ holiness (Sparks).” For that reason, their clothes were easily contaminated by dusts. In early 300 B.C., Egyptians and Romans used burned seaweed,…

Water pollution from batik industry is a serious problem owing to the toxicity effect of wax, resin, sodium silicate and various types of dyes. Economical and efficient treatments are necessary for batik wastewater before it is discharged out. While treatment of dyes and chemicals are already available such as adsorption and membrane, it is observed that the presence of wax and resin can hinder the efficiency of dye removal using conventional technique. A study was initiated for the recovery of wax and resin using a baffle tank, a reboiling technique, then further by adding up of hydrochloric acid (HCL) and acetic acid after first boiling of wastewater. The efficiency of removal was studied using single and combined dyes. Studies on the effect of temperature, pH, cooling time, and acid added were done to determine the optimum efficiency on wax removal of both baffle tank and reboiling technique. From the study, it was found that treatment of batik wastewater using reboiling technique, after the 4th boil, give highest amount of wax and resin removal compared to the baffle tank and reboiling technique added with acid. However, the time needed for the wax to cool off in the baffle tank is shorter than of the reboiling technique. As short period of time was taken to treat the wastewater, it is timesaving as well as economical for the batik industry. Addition of acid to the reboiling technique, besides showing least efficiency, is costly for the batik wastewater treatment. As a conclusion, it can be said that the removal of wax using baffle tank technique proves to be the most efficient method of wax removal due to the time saving virtue. However, because of the cost needed to fund a baffle tank, the stated method comes with certain reservations.…

While many growers see the calamansi as tiny decorative oranges and mostly ornamental, they are finding that the trees are problem free and easy to cultivate both indoors and out. They thrive inside the house in containers, as well as planted in the ground in tropical areas and zones with only occasional mild frosts. Calamansi is the result of a rare natural cross between two closely related genera, the Citrus and the Fortunella, and carries the characteristics of both the parents. The Fortunella parent, Kumquat, lends a dense shrubby habitat, small leaves and a hardy constitution, whereas the Citrus reticulata, Mandarin Orange, lends thorns, tasty fruit and ease of peeling. So the Calamansi has small, easy to peel fruit with the sour acid flavor.…
