Hermes son of Maia and Zeus was a well-known thief. As an infant much like Hercules Hermes showed remarkable prowess as an infant when escaping his cradle to cause mischief among Apollo’s cattle. When he first came upon the cattle his instinct was to steal them and he did just that. Using a clever plan, he padded the feet of the cattle so that they would not be heard whilst being driven away from Pieria the place in which the cattle resided.
