Yes, We Re Slowing Down Older Iphones By Ivana Volti's Analysis
I feel that the main point of this reading was about explaining what technology really is and the many different perspectives that it can be looked at. Before Volti goes into depth and really breaks down the many different aspects of technology, he first provides a definition of this. The definition he gives is that technology consisted of "the principles, processes, and nomenclatures of the more conspicuous arts, particularly those which involve applications of science." In chapter one, Volti explains at the beginning of the reading the early perspectives of how technology was seen, which was as tools to help humans do things that would be otherwise impossible to do. And now in today's world, it is seen as that and a way to help do/make things …show more content…
The article I found is titled, "Apple: Yes, we're slowing down older iPhones" by Ivana Kottasová. What this article talks about is how Apple was pushing out software updates, it was causing older IPhone versions to become slower in an effort to save the batteries in them from suddenly dying and leading to the IPhone to suddenly dying. Once this was released to the public, the public started to become in an uproar about this and got enraged that apple would make older IPhones suffer and not the newer ones. How this article relates to this week's reading is because as you can see, there seem to be winners and loser in this situation. The technological advancement in this situation is the software updates that is pushed out by Apple. The winners in this situation are the people that have newer IPhone versions. They are downloading the new updates and they are fine and are enjoying their IPhones with the updated software. The losers in this situation are the people with the older IPhone versions. They are suffering because when they are downloading the update, their IPhones are actually becoming slower and making it harder to work with it. In today's world, we are all moving at a fast pace. So, having a slower IPhone is not what the people want in their pockets. Now Apple has a lot of upset customers and have to do something about, which will most likely be an update to resolve the

Technologies can be considered as structural constraints. Similar to all structures human beings have created, they can limit or enable human actions. Technology can be defined as the creation, adaptation, usage and comprehension of mostly machines which are known to make life better and assist in solving a problem (Wright, 2008). In addition to that, technology is also used to perform a specific function. The use of technology by human beings can be dated back when they began creating simple tools from natural resources. From using fire to prepare their food which led to the increase of food production to the use of the wheel which aided in moving from one place to another and environmental controlling, human beings are known to use technology to their advantage. Recent technology for instance the internet, the printing press and the mobile phone have made communication easier. It has enabled human beings to be able to communicate and interact freely within the global boundaries (Wright, 2008).…

Life in the technology lane can be defined according to Steve Jobs in the Apple website, as a “bumpy road”. This road will always be facing change, innovation, and improvement. There will always be early adopters who buy a product before a cutoff date and miss the new plus, new price, or new adaptation made to the product. For instance, if you are of the consumers that will be waiting for a new price reduction or for the new improved model to enter the market, you will, most likely, never buy any technological product. There will always be something cheaper and better to come. That relationship and development in technology is what is referred to as life in the technology lane. Price in a technological innovation includes the idea, in other words, the creation of the idea. It is what made the product possible and what made the product unique and a leader in the market. Additionally, price includes the time of creation of the product, and, most importantly, the value of creating the iPhone in terms of what the manufacturers believe will match the customers’ expectations and benefits.…

For years, there have been rumors that other wireless providers, such as Sprint, T-Mobile or Verizon Wireless would get the iPhone. In October, the Wall Street Journal reported that Apple is in the process of producing an iPhone that will be available to Verizon Wireless customers beginning in 2011. With large numbers of customers wanting an iPhone but choosing not to sign with AT&T, competition from other smartphones manufacturers, such as the BlackBerry and Droid, and Apple’s search for new areas of growth, an end to AT&T’s absolute advantage in iPhone sales appears to be on the horizon.…

Technological change is rapid and we are struggling to keep up to date with the latest advances, while learning new ones and trying to prepare for the next changes proposed for the future. In Children of Invention Revisited by Winston, he describes technology in three different ways in reference to the artifact I selected. First, Winston clearly defines technology as “the organization of knowledge, people, and things to accomplish specific practical goal”; second, he states that “technology consists of not only useful artifacts and the tools and processes to produce them but also the entire organization of people and materials that permits the acquisition of the knowledge and skills needed to design, manufacture, distribute, use, repair, and eventually dispose of these artifacts”; lastly, Winston’s definition of technological systems states “ the complex of techniques, knowledge, and resources that are employed by human beings in the creation of material and social artifacts that typically serve certain functions perceived as useful or desirable in relation to human interests in various social contexts”.…

First of all, technologies play a very important role in society because it makes life easier to live on and less time consuming. Technology has the ability to create shortcuts in working. People do not have to do all the hard labor anymore. For example, microwave ovens cook food easily without using any stoves and making a big mess. Some decade ago, there were no gas or electric stoves, people have to get firewoods and lighting them up for cooking. Technology makes things very easy to use comparing it in the old fashion way.…
