Writing a Letter Requesting Admission to a College: Sample Letter
Dear Rogue Foundation,
My mother at a very young age migrated from Mexico to look for what many call, “The American Dream.” It was impossible for her to adapt to a new way of living. To the point where she couldn’t even order a Hamburger from a drive-through because she felt helpless due to speech barriers. Therefore, I will overcome any obstacles that stand in my way, and break the cycle of education barriers, which have impacted me and my family for many years.
I want to obtain an Associate of Applied Science Degree for Computer support Technician. I also want to transfer to a Southern Oregon University and get my bachelor degree on Computer Science. My parents didn’t have the opportunity to attend college, or even complete elementary school, but they have always been wise enough to realize how education is the key to a better life; therefore, I will always remain focused to being a successful student.
At 14 years old I had to help my mother with financial responsibilities. School wasn’t a priority. One morning my mother said, “Jessica, if you want to have two jobs like I do for the rest of your life then sleep, but listen to what I’m going to tell you get up and go to school, or else you will be just like me when you get older.” I then put myself in her shoes and didn’t see a future for myself. For this reason, I graduated and went to college.
It became a challenge when I had a family of my own because my goals were set aside. When it was time to continue my education, my husband deprived me from going to college and I was not willing to surrender, so he left without saying a word. I am a single parent of two children Andres and Regina and I would like to be a positive role model for them. The person that I am now is a woman of courage, dedication, commitment, and responsibility. I will demonstrate to my children that college is a standard chapter of life.
The places where I volunteer have a great impact for my children’s education as well as the

As a single mother of four children, it is my responsibility to be a positive role model for them. One of my roles is instilling how vital a college education is towards their future, which was problematic since I lacked one myself. Therefore, because children learn through example, making the decision to acquire a college degree was a necessary choice. The challenge began when it was time to decide what field of study to target, what type of school to attend, and where I envisioned myself in the future.…

My mother came from a small town, blue collar family of 4 children raised by two immigrants. She has two Master 's degrees and several state certifications. The value of everything not being taken for granted was instilled in her from an early age. The value of education was a high priority in her family also. Growing up my mom has always encouraged my siblings and I to continue our education to as far as college. My mother never really got the chance to attend college because her family could not afford to put all their kids in school. She had seven siblings and an extra bill for school was not something her parents were able to afford. I consider myself really lucky to be alive in a time where there are so many opportunities to be able to afford college. If it were not for scholarships and financial aid, my mother’s story would be repeated once again. Through financial aid, the door for a college career is opened for me and I’m willing to enter it. My biggest motivator to push myself academically has been my…

Knowing that getting a good education for their kids was their first goal encouraged me to work hard in school. Every minute I have spent at Science Park High I have appreciated because I know it is an enormous privilege to get such an excellent education from many insightful teachers. This will also apply to college. Although my siblings all went to high school, they did not go to college and I saw it break each one of their hearts. This will inevitably push me to reach for nothing but greatness in college, to give it me 100 percent and nothing less no matter how hard it…

I can still hear the echo of my mother’s voice when I told her I was leaving my job to go back to school full time. In her loving demeanor and ever so softly toned voice, she said, “If you would have focused on education instead of your social status back then, you would be a doctor by now.” I could not believe my ears! However, I knew exactly what my mother meant and sadly responded with, “you are right mother.” I was twenty seven, a mother of two, and about to sacrifice so much for higher education. This was not going to be easy but I was determine to do it for myself and my family. In the past, my parents stressed the importance of education and did all they could to support us through it. Today is a wonderful millstone in my life , because I decided to go back to college and continue my education. I have been through many obstacles in my life and making the decision to go back to school will give me the opportunity to prove that just because you grow up in a bad environment does not mean that you can’t succeed in life or accomplish great things. There are others reason why I went back to school as well one of them being that it will increase my finical situation, and portray a positive role model for my daughter I grew up in Compton California which is a very poverty stricken area that is infested with crime, gangs, teen pregnancy and poverty. I was raised by my grandmother who tried to instill nothing but positive things in me. She made it clear to me that school was very important and without an education you may want to go far but won’t. I studied hard and obtained a full scholar ship to UCLA but I ended up getting pregnant with my daughter and quit.…

I did not look up to anyone in my family and I did not admire any actor, actress, athlete, etc. I made it my goal in life to become something that will better not only myself, but my family as well. Most importantly I want to be someone my daughter, Kierra, will want to look up too. I want my daughter to have a better, more fulfilling life than I had growing up. I strongly believe that I can not help her until I have helped myself first. I want her to realize the importance of going to college. I do not want her to think it is acceptable to go from job to job and never own or amount up to anything. I want her to understand that by not going to college she will most likely become unemployed sometime in her life and then she will have to rely on family, friends, or the government to help her get by. I also feel it will be like a monkey see monkey do scenario. As a parent, I will have a profound influence on her educational achievements. By having a bachelor's degree, I feel she will most likely become more educated, because she will look up to me. I really wish I would have had parents who went to college, so I could have looked up to them in an educational sense. Kids chose who they are close too to be role models, in good or bad situations. Child look to role models to assistant in shaping their behavior and decision making. Children chose role models who are achievers, because it helps them with self confidence and it helps them to push themselves in life to achieve great things. By placing a strong value on my education, she will do the same with her education. I hope she realizes that everything I am doing, I am doing it for our family and one day we will have a nice house, instead of an apartment. Right now as a certified nursing assistant, I can not provide for her as I would like too. I would love to be able to take her on vacations and to see the world and learn about other places and cultures, but financially…
