Paragraph 1

I am applying for the ABA Therapist position at the Center for Autism and Related Disorders (CARD) because I feel the need to help Autistic children. When my younger sister had her second baby, I felt in love with him from the time I saw him. He was a normal and healthy baby. After a year or so we begin to notice changes in his behavior and attitude. After many visits to the doctor my nephew was diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a type of Autism, apparently very common in children. I spent the majority of my free time researching and investigating his condition. He started receiving occupational and behavioral therapy; his ABA therapist would come home twice a week. He enjoyed his therapy sessions very much; I saw how dedicated his therapist was and realized how important these sessions are for an autistic child. My nephew is a normal and very smart child, but with special needs. He is my inspiration in life, being so close to him helped me decide what career to pursue, that's how I enrolled at the University of Phoenix and got my degree in psychology while I was a volunteer at the Autism Diagnostic Clinic at Phoenix Children's Hospital. My biggest passion is to help autistic children like my nephew. I'm ready to become a member of the Center for Autism and Related Disorders, it would be a great honor to get the ABA Therapist position and start working with your

position with the Division of Economic Security (DES)?’ this is my response. Over the years I have held several different office type jobs. I started out as a temporary worker for DES, in a file room in the Child Support Division. I was required to build files for different units; maintain a log of the files that were being received, transferred out, and sent to the warehouse. The files sent to the warehouse were given a secondary number by the warehouse, in case a file had to be retrieved; this was the tracking system that allowed the warehouse to locate the appropriate file. I worked in DES as a Customer Service Representative (CSR) for the Family Assistance Administration (FAA). As a CSR I was required to perform a wide range of clerical duties; distributing mail/inter-office mail and faxes, pulling and filing files in the file room, registering/scheduling incoming applications, ensuring the case managers had their list of appointments for the day and the incoming paperwork that accompanied it, answering the switchboard to guide/answer incoming calls from consumers, and scan information the case managers had gathered from the consumers into the system. The position as a CSR proved tested my ability to multi-task and to prioritize and re-prioritize with the day to day changes.…

Introduction Understanding the background of, and knowing how to implement ABA strategies based on ABA practices is essential for those that work with students who present with autism. Though the implementation of ABA can present a number of challenges in the public school setting, educators and service providers need to be aware of the misconceptions surrounding ABA as well as have awareness of what ABA is and is not (Boutot & Hume, 2010). Educators need to be aware of their own misconceptions surrounding the practices of and implementation of ABA. If people could get past the negative and possibly incorrect connotations ABA carries, practitioners could successfully implement ABA based strategies; practices which could possibly result in…

As a student coming fresh out of high school I am still used to writing as I have been taught since I was in middle school. We were taught to outline, make a first draft, have someone read that draft, revise and then hand in the final copy. This is a long and boring process that has not changed and is always so repetitive. We always had to write five paragraph papers about things that would never be relevant to my future. In this class I hope to change my approach and how I feel about writing.…

I am thoroughly excited about the possibility of being hired for the position of Medical Administrative Assistant here at St. Mary’s Adult Care. I have always enjoyed being around people, and I am highly skilled when it comes to making people feel comfortable, especially in situations that may not be ideal or very comfortable for them. I continually find myself seeking employment in jobs that put me in the position of dealing directly with people. At any given moment, I could be helping someone solve an issue, speaking a few gentle words to put a smile upon their face, or nursing someone back to health with a soft kindness that I am proud to possess. I found my love of taking care of people when my father had a heart attack on the job and could no longer work. It was then that I became his main caregiver. This forced me to mature quickly. I was the only child at home during that time, and my mother was always working, so this placed me in the position to start taking on adult responsibilities. I began paying bills, I made sure that my father had breakfast in the morning and had taken his medication before I went off to school. While taking care of my father, I learned the names of his medications and what their purposes were; I gave him his insulin shots, performed glucose testing and readings, took his blood pressure, as well as planning nutritional meals to keep his heart in good shape and his diabetes under control. I did this through my entire four years of high school. What I have learned from taking care of my father is patience, courteousness, the importance of listening to what the patient needs, and no matter how bad your day goes, never let it show or take it out on anyone.…

I know there will be challenges as an IT within an IBI treatment team but with these challenges comes the opportunity to grow, improve and contribute. I will be working with people on a daily basis and will have to speak out on issues that arise. As I am shy, I will need to work on my communication skills to effectively communicate with team and family members. I will need to look to my team members to guide me in implementing individualized ABA treatment plans as I have no prior experience in this area. I also realize the job may be repetitive and stressful so I will have to watch for the possibility of burnout. My nephew is autistic so I also realize the importance and rewards this field provides.…

Schools today are in dire need of funding. Government budgets cut far too much from allowances for the educational system, which in turn is unable to provide the highest quality service to young students looking to gain the skills necessary to be successful. As a result of this lack of appropriations, many have looked to other places to find money so that children may receive a better education. One of these places is from corporate donors who would award sums of money in exchange for special advertising space within schools. While some may argue that the corporate sponsorship and advertising in schools may be beneficial to the schools, it is ultimately an unhealthy and would for the most part negatively affect the minds of students who are there to be taught important skills and not be influenced by outside conglomerates…
