Writing Class Reflection
In eighth grade I took a class at a charter school and I enjoyed it a lot but I still learned. A practice at the school that I found was conducive to learning was the very different approach to teaching and learning in the school. There was no such thing as tardy work; all of the assignments that we did had no due date, and could be turned in for a full grade at any time the entire year. The teachers still reminded us about the assignments we had but the lack of deadlines removed a large factor of stress for the students, and assignments could be worked on whenever students had the time. We focused on a variety of different authors and many kinds of writing. The assignments were challenging, but still interesting and fun to do. We were usually given plenty of interesting topics to choose to write about. This class was the most positive experience I’ve had in an English class. It was always lively and relaxed, but I still felt as though I was learning.
When we arrived in class there was always a short writing prompt on the board. The class was given five minutes to write a short story or poem based on the prompt. It was helpful and interesting, and a great way to get the students introduced to whatever the topic of the class was that day. The prompt would help to inspire interest in the discussion that day. It inspired me to be more creative and original in my work and fostered my growth as a writer. I’m glad that I took that class since before I took it English classes always discouraged me. Despite the fact I have always enjoyed writing on my own; I never enjoyed it at school and other classes made me feel as though I wasn’t very adept at writing. However the class I took in eighth grade renewed my confidence and inspiration and I consider that class to be the best experience I’ve had in any English class so

Overall, my experience taking English 106-H was fulfilled and I truly enjoyed my time in class. What were once weaknesses, slowly, but surely became strengths. Thus, it was through my weaknesses that helped me develop my writing skills, making me a stronger writer. Through free writing, word traps, and ideas of my own, I was able to implement those strategies into my writing. Nevertheless, I have reached my goal, but still will continue to strive for even stronger writing through out all of my courses at Lycoming College.…

Teachers should be able to inspire students, make them apply what they learn and most importantly, make students want to learn. Sometimes it can be beneficial for teachers to work together to help each other with student specific ideas. “Teachers at Donaldson Elementary School in our district were reluctant to spend large chunks of their early-out times in meetings supposedly intended to promote ‘continuous improvement.’ But when they began to see collective progress, a direct result of their focused collaboration, the meetings became more meaningful. A good example is what happened in 2nd grade writing: students’ difficulty in writing in writing descriptive settings. After the team brainstormed, a team member proposed having student’s first draw then describe in writing the setting they imagined for their stories. The number of students able to write high-quality descriptions went from just a few to almost the entire 2nd grade class” (Schmoker 11) Like previously noted, many previous reforms have been solely based on curriculum and not enough attention is put on teachers. “The central-concern is for the teachers to become better equipped to know what new strategies to adopt and how to adopt them.” (Caine and Caine 187) This quote originates from a brain based approach, and this and many other…

By using this I have discovered what my goals and dreams are. I wanted to pass this class and go on to college but that's not going to happen if I fail english. I realized that all that busy work she was giving us wasn't actually busy work. She showing us how hard it can be in college and most of the material now that I come to think of it helped me with everything I did in that class whether it was vocab or learning to write a better thesis statement. My goal for that class was to pass with an 80 or high by the end of each marking period and to not slack on all my work and to do it well and on time. Now I actually do my work ahead of time so that I don't forget and I have time to go back and look over it and sometimes I have a little free time to myself. My current grade in my CCC English 102 is an 89 and so far i've been doing things days before they are actually do so I make sure it's…

When the semester began I thought to my knowledge that my writing was that of good quality. Though I had a good basic understanding of the format of an essay or letter I still had a lot to learn. My writing changed in many ways such as learning to eliminate unnecessary wording in my thesis, the use of synonyms, analyzing quotes and writing abstract to concrete thoughts or ideas. This Class not only helped enhance my writing abilities but to also better evaluate the writings of others and forced me to acknowledge the rigorous work of future courses in college.…

I am glad that I took this composition course. Before I took this class, I would say that I was just an average writer. I took this class in hopes that I would learn more about writing and learn new skills that I can apply to my writing process. I have only been in this class for one quarter, but I would say that I am a much better writer than I was before I took this class. I have learned new skills that expand my writing above the level it was. I have also learned more about myself as a writer and what is working and what is not working with my writing process.…

Everyone is likely to experience some form of discrimination or prejudice; as is anyone capable of acting prejudiced towards others. On April 5th, 1968, a teacher in Riceville, Iowa named Jane Elliot conducted an experiment with her third grade class that dealt with the concept of discrimination; and was documented in Peters’ 1985 ‘A Class Divided’. The exercise originally took place the day after Martin Luther King was assassinated. The documentary is an eye opener to the world of racism and discrimination. Bucher (2010) describes racism as “discrimination based on the belief that one race is superior to another” (97). According to Bucher (2010) “discrimination is defined as the unequal treatment of people on the basis of their group membership” (100). Bucher goes on to say “treatment varies because of race, age, gender, social class or any number of other dimensions of diversity” (100). ‘A Class Divided’ exposes that discrimination doesn’t just go to the extent to the color of skin, culture or ethnicity, but discrimination can fall into any physical characteristics, social status, having a developmental disability, simply being a woman, and in this case the color of your eyes.…

From the assignments and researches, I achieved a great deal of understanding about critical thinking, writing a correct sentence and most of all realizing the different thoughts from different people in the class. People have their own opinions in every worked paper we have done which helps me to realize that people have different believes concerning different issues. I respect every once opinions and am happy that I took them as a good knowledge gained. I just wish I would have taken a class like this sooner! The research and actual writing process just seems so much easier once you break it down.…

When a student steps into the classroom and hurries to get their textbooks open, while s are hanging on to their teachers every word as while scribbling down notes, and in turn blocking out the rest of the world. Every student has that one class that makes them want to learn and discover more and more about that certain subject they can 't get enough of, or the teachers presence and enthusiasm excites students. For myself my goal is to teach elementary students and have them as excited to learn as I was when attending my Foundations in Education class. This class is extremely important for students who believe that they want to become part of the teaching profession.…
