ENG 101E Reflection
Writing has never been a subject I am best at because I dislike writing because there are a lot of rules to it. ENG 101E class helped made me understand all of those rules. It has helped me in a variety of ways in gaining and sharpening skills in writing. This class taught me how to think critically by analyzing a topic from all sides. Additionally, we learned a lot about the different styles of writing. For instance, informal and formal writing, compare and contrast, and rhetorical analysis. Every essay comes with the MLA format, with signal phrases, quotations marks, and parenthetical citations. This information is very relevant to any paper I will write for a class in the future. I had never before been taught the correct way to do this. The compilation of knowledge this class has given me. …show more content…
I learned how to peer edit and make changes. This outlet allowed for a better thinking process. Things have become simpler now because I do not have to go through the struggle of how things are done or if I am confused about how I am supposed to do what I am assigned to do.
We learned the proper ways to both summarize and cite a piece. The summarizing will help me a lot in college with taking notes. The citations will help me when I have to write a paper that contains outside sources. I learned how to successfully paraphrase or summarize articles and stories. I would only have to include transitions, which I also learned, and maybe a few more sentences to make my ideas connect properly and flow

There was so much information to learn in Introduction to University Writing, it is hard for me to say what was the most important to me. Unit 1, Good Writers are Made Not Born refreshed me on the basics of writing with common misspelled words, punctuation basics , verb tenses and plurals (Chambers, 2015). I really needed this refresher on the basics of writing or the consequences might have been disastrous the farther I got into my college career. The next thing that helped me out immensely was when we worked with APA and how we learned to use the “cite” tool on EBSCO, along with using the website www. Bibme.org to make sure we use the right APA format to reference our sources. I also felt that it was very important that my facilitator recommended her students to look for an outside source, such as the Smarthinking lab or www.paperrater.com to review our writings before our final submission.…

Some of the things I learned were how to balance a checkbook, how to run a business, and how to budget my time and finances. Along with those real life skills a learned some metaphoric skills as well. I learned that you can’t just plant a seed and it will grow. To start with, you have to have a good foundation, which is the right type of soil. This all applies to life; you have to start with a good foundation if you want to succeed in life.…

On past exams, we had to write an essay in one hour, which was quite a challenging task. Using ACE paragraphs helped me learn how to write a well written response to an article or prompt. It taught me how to use supporting details to prove my statement. My writing composition has improved tremendously after these…

To begin, a memorable experience that sticks out is one of the first days of class. We began talking about how we will also be using a second textbook. Soon after the class began discussing definitions of advocacy. Personally, I could not come up with many definitions and seeing the variety of results the class produced not only showed me how much I can learn from others, but also showed me how writing can include advocacy. I had never thought of the presence of advocacy in writing, therefore that specific class period was eye opening. To hear how writing sends a specific message to an audience while simultaneously using different rhetorical techniques to help further that message was a great introduction to what the course would be discussing.…

English 101 has been an amazing class and I feel like I have grown more than I expected. I was apprehensive about taking an English class because I have been away from school for almost seventeen years. I have not written an essay since 1996 and I knew many things have changed. I was especially concerned with citations. However, I found myself being able to work though citations with little effort.…

As my English 101 class comes to an end there are many valuable lessons we learned in this class. We learned how to respond to the author. We learned how to write in the They Say/I Say style, which I plan on using this style to write in most of my papers from now on. Another lesson we learned in this class was how to create a thesis with tension. The lessons I learned in English 101 will most likely be used again as I progress on with English 102 as well as the rest of my college career.…

When looking back on Math 297, I am reminded of the first time I heard mention of the course in Math 157 by Shari Dorsey. Shari was sharing with the class that in the fall a special topics class was going to be available, the topic being instruction in the middle years. I was so eager to sign up for the course that I emailed the instructor, Margaret Kinzel, immediately requesting a permission number. The eagerness to secure myself a position in this course stems from a desire to have as thorough an understanding of the principles of middle school math as possible when I graduate because my goal is to be a Middle School Mathematics Educator.…

Before choosing the EAP course at LondonMet I had a doubt whether I needed to stay at Rose of York language school and study Business English, which is relevant to my main course, or to study English for Academic Purposes at university. The main reason of my anxiety was, having spent several years at the language school, been familiar with all teachers, librarians and most students and been taught by a Cambridge graduate with lots of experience working in a big oil company I felt therefore quite comfortable and confident. Another choice, a three-month Pre-Sessional English which implies new teachers, students and classrooms all of these factors presume a period of time for adaptation, and during this time the effectiveness of the process of study is usually very low.…

Some of the most beneficial things that I have learned during this semester of English 250 was based around getting a feel again, for what it is to be an academic based author. I relearned what proper MLA format is supposed to look like, along with how to correctly cite sources without plagiarizing. Along with those examples I learned more of what it means to sound professional in writing, rather than writing as if I were to be having a conversation with someone else. And some of my favorite things that I did while in English 250 had to be the research paper, because I was able to dig deep into my own research and study a topic that was very interesting to me, and in the end compose an essay that I thought was well constructed and more professional…
