Why The United States Decided To Drop The Atomic Bomb?
When the United States decided to drop the atomic bomb on Japan their ultimate goal was to intimidate the soviet union. The relationship between the two countries was beginning to unravel. The U.S. decided that the only way to gain the respect from the soviet union was to display the amount of power they truly had. The war between Japan and the United States was a good way to showcase the power that they had. The bombing in Japan made it clear that the United States held all the power. Therefore, when analyzing the given statement it is clear that the statement is indeed valid.
The United States was not concerned about defeating the Japanese. It was expressed that without the bombing the Japanese were going to become undone. “Atomic bomb or not atomic bomb, the Japanese were already on the verge of collapse” (Doc B). Saying that it was not necessary to drop the bombs because the Japanese empire was going to collapse anyway shows that the atomic bombs were just used as a way to showcase the power that the United States had. The United States was more interested with the Soviet Union’s involvement in the war.
