Why Should People Be Held Accountable?
It's not every day where you need to make crucial decisions in a split second, where someone's life or your own life could be at stake depending on your decisions. In moments of extreme measures, the human psyche will change, and his or her instincts will start to kick in and sometimes it will override rational thoughts. In these types of situations, the idea of accountability gets tangled with survival instincts, causing the situation to not be so black and white, which gives us the gray area of whether people should be held accountable or not. People in life or death situations should not be held accountable for their actions or any mishaps that may happen, because when people are in critical situations their own life is their first priority

People's first reaction will be to get themselves out to safety and maybe close to loved ones. But if they are pushing and shoving through people that they have no connections with and have never met in their lives, they probably won't hesitate to maybe push and shove them out of the way. And in extreme cases it may result in someone tripping and not being able to get out. The person who may have caused the other person to trip, resulting in them not escaping, should not be held accountable for that person's death, because people have fight or flight instincts; they will do whatever they think is needed to protect themselves. Especially if this situation triggers a fear and that triggers an even deeper instinct in one's body telling them to do whatever is needed to get out as soon as possible. Thus, in situations such as the example above, it is natural for people to react in such a manner without punishment. One might say that allowing others to act without consequences sets dangerous circumstances and undermines societal order. They may say accountability is necessary to maintain stability and prevent chaos, even in life or death
