Why Pete Rose Is In A Perfect Hall Of Fame?
Even if you are the casual baseball fan, odds are that you have heard the infamous story of how legendary baseball player Pete Rose allegedly gambled on the game of baseball while he was a player and manager in the league. Nearly everybody has an argument for whatever side they stand on. Those advocating for Rose claim that he never bet against his team. They say that he only bet on his team to win. What could be so wrong about that? Pete Rose was confident that his team would come out on top day in and day out. Is there anything wrong with having faith in your own team to win games, not to mention that Rose is the all time hits leader in Major League Baseball history. On the flip side, the group that opposes the pro-Pete Rose group are the …show more content…
By keeping Pete Rose out of the hall of fame, baseball fanatics and historians argue that it is damaging the integrity of the hall. The Hall of Fame is only trying to show all the great players and events in the history of the game but they do not want to allow Pete Rose in it. Since Rose technically broke the rules stated in the Major League Baseball rule book, he is permanently ineligible from being involved in the League. Although he has applied for reinstatement many times, the Hall keeps denying him over and …show more content…
But, there is one thing that keeps him in the conversation for being in the hall of fame and for being the greatest player of all time. That one piece of evidence is how many hits he had in his career. Currently, Pete Rose holds the record for most hits in a career with 4,256 hits. Not to mention that Rose also is the leader in the career games played, career at-bats, and career plate appearances. Rose is the definition of longevity. He played more games than anyone in the history of baseball and still continued to have the most hits than anyone.
Now, people would say that because he played more games, he had more opportunities to rack up hits. What people fail to realize is that Rose entered the league at age 22, which is later than the average player, and was in the league longer than the average player, which was age 45 and 24 years in the league. A position player playing until he is 45 years old in today’s world is completely unheard of.
The Baseball Hall of Fame is denying the player who holds the league record for most hits in a career. In the opinion of most people, if you said that, they would think you are crazy. It is hard to fathom that a place that is supposed to recognize historical achievements from players and momentous events happening throughout history, is keeping the player that achieved great success in the game and is apart of one of the most well known legal cases in the game, out of the hall of fame.

Bart Giamatti's decision to ban Pete Rose from the Baseball Hall of Fame was not a fair decision at all. Pete Rose was placed on Baseball's ineligible list in 1989 when commissioner of baseball, Bart Giamatti concluded that Rose had bet on baseball games, including games involving his own team, the Cincinnati Reds. In an agreement made with Baseball, Rose accepted his banishment from the sport. Although he never admitted to having gambled on baseball games (Maury). Pete Rose was a phenomenal baseball player and manager. He was accused of gambling. His team while he was managing was supposedly involved. Bart Giamatti's severe punishment of Pete Rose is a very controversial topic in the world of sports. There are a few rules that must have been followed to be inducted to the Hall of Fame. The one that is keeping Rose away is rule five. Rule five states: Voting shall be based upon the player's record, playing ability, integrity, sportsmanship, character, and contributions to the team or teams on which the player played (Maury). This rule has been tested and beaten many times. Many players have entered the Baseball Hall of Fame such as the very unlikable Ty Cobb, the drinking Babe Ruth, the umpire abusing John McGraw, the racist Cap Anson, Gaylord Perry a suspected cheater, and the gambling Leo Durocher. Those are just a few of the baseball players who somehow made into the Hall of Fame and got passed rule five (Ritter). Pete Rose's problem was not even as severe as all of these other men. The argument to this is that if these men can make it into the Hall of Fame why is Pete Rose banned. It is obvious that these players made it there with just their playing abilities and not by all of the other characteristics needed to be inducted into the Hall of Fame (Maury). Pete Rose started playing professional baseball in 1960 in the minor leagues and by 1963 he reached the Major Leagues as a rookie second baseman with the National League's Cincinnati Reds. Rose won…

In basketball, today there are basically two front runners in the MVP race Russell Westbrook and James Harden. I understand people have their different outlooks on Basketball and the MVP standing but something is wrong when you have a player that breaks multiple records and still does not start in the All-Star game. In which were important records. Russell Westbrook made the all-star team but did not start when he clearly should have. This could clearly be one of the biggest all-star snubs of all time in NBA history.…

I have been given the great honor of inducting Reggie into the Hall of Fame. Now I could talk about the statistics or the numbers Reggie put up, (and I will later) but I think I should tell you a little about Reggie. He grew up with 3 extremely talented siblings. His older brother was a professional catcher in the MLB, his younger sister played Division I volleyball at Cal State Fullerton and his older and most famous sister is Cheryl Miller, debatably the greatest female basketball player of all time. Then there was little Reggie. Born a crippled and unable to run, jump, hop or even walk. For the first four years of his life he wore leg braces. Doctors wondered if he would ever walk straight in his life. Imagine how difficult it would have been to watch your older siblings do the things they did. But Reggie did not wallow in his own self pity. Instead he decided to do something about it. He began to work day by day. Always increasing his work ethic and taking as many physical therapy classes as he could. Until one day he beat his first obstacle.…

Baseball legend Pete Rose once said, “I’d walk through hell and gasoline to play baseball.” This quote gives anyone unfamiliar with who Pete Rose is a great understanding of how much he loved the game of baseball. Pete Rose’s entire life revolved around the game of baseball. He was a hometown hero and played 24 seasons of professional baseball. From 1963-1986, Rose collected more base hits than any player to ever play the game which would make him a sure first ballot Hall of Famer. However on August 24th, 1989 Rose was banned from the game of baseball for life. Pete Rose was banned by MLB commissioner Angelo Bartlett "Bart" Giamatti for gambling on the game of baseball. I want to inform readers of whom Pete Rose is, what type of player he was, and the mistake he made. The question still remains today whether or not the ban on Pete Rose should be lifted, allowing him to apply for his induction into baseball’s Hall of Fame. I personally…

For the past 30 years, Jack Nicklaus has been considered by many to be the greatest golfer of all time(1). Now, most of the baseball critics and brass do not want Pete Rose inducted. They claim that his illegal betting on baseball games should keep him out of the Hall of Fame. Almost all of the "highly questionable" evidence that Commissioner Bart Giamatti held was derived from former friends and associates of Rose. "Up to $30,000 per day", so some of Roses' "close" friends say. These former friends of Rose are Tommy Gioiosa, Donald Stenger, Mike Fry, and Paul Janszen. This evidence is what prompted the banishment from baseball of Pete Rose, which he signed. The evidence was enough for the Commissioner. In 1989, baseball's Commissioner Bart Giammati suspended Pete Rose from association with professional baseball for life for gambling (Reston 1997). Rose also spent five months in a minimum-security prison for tax evasion in 1990. He did not report cash money he accepted for signing baseballs and photographs at baseball card shows (Reston 1997). It is still to this day not proven that Rose 'did' bet on the baseball team that he was managing. Rose himself still holds true to his statement that he never bet on the game of baseball. Evidence…

I do not think they should allow them to be inducted even if the MLB rules have not stated steroid use to be prohibited. As I said in the last paragraph, he was one of the few player-manager to ever be in the MLB. Also, the MLB made an award to give out every year called Charlie Hustle Award, this award is given to a player who shows the true spirit and traditions of baseball(Kay 1). This award came about and named after Pete Rose, he was a player who stood out for his hustle and drive for the game(1). There are MLB players right now who try to mimic Pete Rose style of play, for example Bryce Harper and Mike Trout are some of the best players in the game and both have said they try to play like Pete. “Because I was small, I always had to do things other people didn’t do to try to win games. That’s the way I played.”, this was a very famous quote from Pete Rose about his style of playing baseball(Kay 1). Not everyone liked his style of hustle, some players thought he was a show off, but everyone respected him and knew how impactful he was to the game. Now there is the side of why he should not be in the Hall of Fame…
