Why Is World War One Important In World History
World War One is one of the most significant event in world history. With the treaty of Versailles leading to hyperinflation, the rise of hitler, his dictatorship and the Second World War. The conception of the Anzac spirit at Gallipoli. And a change to the position that women held in society. It was also a significant event in the history of Australia because it was the first chance Australia had to prove herself as a newly formed country.
The assassination of the Arch Duke Franz Ferdinand the heir to the Austro-Hungarian empire at Sarajevo was the event that led to the start of the First World War. The Austro-Hungarian government believed that the assassin that killed Ferdinand and his wife were a product of the Serbian government, And as a result they declared war on Serbia. Because of the alliance system this caused Russia to mobilise their troops. Germany then invaded France and Belgium,knowing it would come to the aid of it's ally Russia. This attempt to knock France out of the war quickly(known as the Schlieffen Plan) was an attempt to prevent a war on two fronts. This plan failed and lead to the entry of Great Britain into the war.
