America's Role In World War One
World war one was one of the most deadliest wars in world history. The war was sparked because of the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand. Soon after war was declared, allies of the nations got involved. This dragged most of Europe into the Great War. Eventually, the United States joins the conflict with the Allied Nations. In 1918, world war one finally ended.
The assassination of the Archduke played an important role in starting the war. In 1914, the groups of people under Austria-Hungary control wanted to be free. Gavrilo Princip wanted Bosnia, a country under Austria-Hungary rule, to join Serbia. Princip shot and killed the Archduke to free Bosnia. However, this changed when Germany sank the Lusitania, a British ocean liner. One-hundred twenty-eight Americans were killed in the sinking of the Lusitania. Also, the Zimmermann Telegram played an important part in the U.S joining the war. The telegram wanted Mexico to join the war, and also promised that Germany would help take back their land that America owned. American troops arrived in June 1917 at France and defended against German forces. The battle for Belleau Wood was an important battle that lasted 2 weeks and was won by the U.S. The Argonne Forest was another important battle that helped end the war. The battle for Argonne Forest lasted 47 days. In November 1918 the Central powers Surrender. The Treaty of Versailles was created and signed, it demanded that Germany take all of the blame for the war and also pay heavy reparations.

However, the Treaty of Versailles laid the groundwork for another world war with Germany.
