Why Is Chris Mccandless Crazy
I agree with the author. Chris wasn’t crazy for many reasons. He was a very smart man. He graduated college and was planning on becoming a lawyer, until he realized something many wish they did. He understood what he was passionate for and it wasn’t law school. Chris McCandless was a very bright man. He knew exactly what he was doing and he enjoyed it. The only thing he did wrong was underestimating the Alaskan Wilderness. “ That’s when I had a bad feeling like we wouldn’t never see Alex again.” He was very driven and believed he can accomplish anything, which is very admirable. “ Same story: idealistic, energetic guys who overestimate themselves, underestimate the country.” –Jack London, one of Chris’s favorite authors. “Alex is a nut” “he forsaken a loving family, abandoned his car, watch, and burned the last of his money.” These quotes are people’s opinion on Chris. But like most opinions some view it the other way. Chris is a man that shows great dedication and commitment to accomplish what he did. He was not crazy for doing something he was passionate for. Of coarse anyone isolated for that period of time can get a little crazy but he knew the …show more content…
He believed society set basic rules for humans like getting a good education, get a career, and have a family. . But he didn’t believe in that. Some may call him a “Hippie” or “outsider” but just because he doesn’t believe in our society does not make him crazy. He showed lots of logos while in Alaska such as knowing how to start fires and kill animals. He showed pathos by having a good attitude. He was freezing, tired, and starving but he was still having a great time. He also picked up some ethos on the way. He talked to some Alaskan residents how it was like up there to get an idea and to prepare for what is coming. Chris McCandless was a bright, dedicated, and sophisticated young man that followed his dreams and accomplished it. He was a very admirable

In the book Into the Wild it explains a true story that had changed the the lives of many. A young man who all he wanted was to escape society and get away from the world. His life did end shortly after his disappearance. But that does not mean he did not live his life to the fullest. Jon Krakauer the author of the book Into the Wild describes Chris McCandless faults and traits. Chris is an intelligent guy but he finds a new meaning for life and wants to go discover it. He didn't have any contact with his parents but was contacting his sister carrie. Krakauer does a tremendous job of interviewing everyone who had anything to do with McCandless from his parents, when he grew up, to the people who found his body in the abandoned bus in Alaska.…

I agree with the author that Chris McCandless wasn’t a crazy person and he was seeking happiness for himself in the wild. There are many things that show that he wasn’t crazy, like getting along with people, having some knowledge of living in the wild, and he was very bright and made some good decisions. However, he did seem somewhat incompetent.…

Chris McCandless home life didn’t seem bad at first, but you have to dig deeper than the surface to see what the problem was. McCandless family was a wealthy family, he also had both his parents and his sister that he loved, that was the surface the problem was that McCandless father had another family. In McCandless eyes he saw it as cheating on his mom and family because he was taking care of another family. McCandless childhood was good…

McCandless the main character “Into The Wild” is a reckless and selfish human being. In the novel it states that “his family had no idea where he was or what had become of him until his remains turned up in Alaska.” He made his parents suffer not knowing where their son was at. Chris McCandless actions was clearly a sign of stupidity almost suicidal. He had chances to survive and turn this around. His first mistake…

It is said that Chris McCandless was a bright and ignorant person according to Cellarmans argument and maybe others point of views. In my perspective I agree but disagree as well although I agree with the argument that was said by Callarmans. As I state a quote that was said by Shaun Callarman “ had no business going into Alaska with his Romantic silliness”. As it says “Romantic silliness” he was meaning that he wanted to die in a poetic but as well as a beautiful surrounding of love and happiness. He traveled to find himself into the wilderness to figure out who he is.…

Also many people argued that McCandless was suffering from a mental illness probably like depression, however, there has been no evidence given that Chris was actually suffering from this. A third thing is that there is no doubt that Chris McCandless did not have a bound with his parents, he did not spend a lot of time with them, but have people considered the fact that Chris did not want to become like his parents, the type that have to work all the time and the type that do not have time to do anything else but…

For Chris the way he started his journey was a rather unique way of doing it. Chris was a smart person who had finished high school and everyone thought that he was going to a nice law school. McCandless, an intelligent child to say the least, was frustrated with orders by anyone. He wanted to do things his way or no way and he does this throughout his life. Whether it was getting an F in physics because he refused to write lab reports a certain way (an F was something that was never on McCandless report card) or not listening to advice from his parents to the extreme of leaving society to go into the wilderness, McCandless definitely was not a follower. His parents were told by one of his teachers at an early age that Chris "marched to the beat of his own drummer". Chris never lost his ability to do things the way he wanted and when he wanted to do them. After receiving his diploma from Emory in 1990 he set off on a two-year escapade that would eventually end his life but in my opinion, if Chris could start over he would probably not do things much differently. I think he would still donate his $25,000 to an organization, leave his car in the woods, burn the remainder of his money, and hitch-hiked across the United States. The only thing he might do differently is…

Despite the conflicting public opinion, Chris McCandless succeeded in his goal to survive in the wilderness and taught the world valuable lessons in the process. Chris McCandless “probably died on August 18th, 112 days after he had walked into the wild.” (119, Krakauer) He survived with very little gear and food, even though he was essentially cut off from the world. To have lived for a little over three months totally self-sufficient is impressive. Chris’s goal was to be independent and live off the land for a while. In his mindset, he achieved in his goal. Wayne Westerberg had employed Chris for two short amounts of time, but said “He was the type of person who insisted on living out his beliefs.” (Krakauer, 67) This was why Chris was determined to go to Alaska, instead of listening to the protests of others.…

Chris was known as mentally ill most of the time; however that isn’t the case. The fact is mc Donald’s coworkers see him as mental because he didn’t talk to them and rode in the desert every day; however in reality McCandless didn’t have any reason to talk to them and he was perfectly fine. He seen those people as “”Plastic People”” (43), and had no interest in Talking to them. Others thought he was mental because he stayed distant and didn’t talk, but Chris wasn’t talking to them on purpose and he knew what he was doing, where real mental people don’t mean to be anti – social but that’s how it is. Chris knew he was being anti – social and had his reasoning.…

I believe that Chris McCandless is brave and courageous. He chose to take a risk and said “I don’t want to live this boring life. I don’t care what people say or think.” In the end if he would have listened to everyone and tried to satisfy them, they would never be happy. He lived life the way he wanted to live it.
