Why I Want To Be Considered For A Scholarship
I am Katrina Sanchez and it is a luxury to work and study at the same time here in the United States of America. I am saying this because not everyone has this kind of opportunity that I have. I have been praying for this for so long since high school, and now, I can really testify that one of my longtime prayers has been answered. I am the eldest in the family and I have three younger siblings. I am the very first person in my entire family to study here in the US and I am very excited to set standards for everybody else in my family to follow. In regards to educational attainment, my parents both graduated from college and received their bachelor's degree in the Philippines. On my part, I desire to surpass what they have accomplished because …show more content…

I want my father to take a rest from working because ever since he was a young boy, he has been working for his family and siblings, and as his child I want to tell him to rest and I'll take care of what needs to be taken care of. It's not just my parents and siblings, it is also one of my plans to help my cousins back in the Philippines. They may not have the same opportunity that I have here in California, at least I can help them finance their tuition fees to pursue a higher educational goal so that they will have that edge to be employed in a reputable and steady career in the

I want to be an example to those who believe they can not prosper because we are minorities, however, we can diversify the work system. We are not defined by the given stereotypes of our community but rather the story we create for…

I don’t know if I feel that saying that I deserve this scholarship is the right thing to say, but going to Japan has been a goal of mine ever since I can remember. My grandfather was the one who really got me interested in Japan. My grandfather would have loved me going to Japan and would have supported me whole heartedly. I want to go to Japan not only to see what he saw, but also to improve the little that I know and improve myself.…

Being “great” like many other adjectives used to describe an individual is a subjective term. That means that great for one individual might not be great for another. This is similar to how successful for me would be to take care of my mother and father, while success for another would be to make a six figure salary a year. For me, being “great” is doing just that little bit more that separates you from the competition. A quote that I am reminded of is by Art Williams that says “The difference between average and ordinary is so small that it’s scary”. I wholeheartedly believe that he is write in saying this. A person can be successful at 99% of the things that they do in their lives and still not be great. However,…

My family came to this country with very little on their backs, but they were intrigued by the timeless pursuit of the American Dream. I’m a current student at Northern Virginia Community College and the oldest of five children. My parents and I along with two of my siblings, are immigrants to this nation, from El Salvador. Being the oldest of five, there has always been a huge emphasis on me being the key role model for my younger siblings, to obtain good grades, stay clear of any troubles and to help my parents in anything. We left our livelihood in our country because of gang related violence, government corruption, and lack of opportunities. This is very similar to any immigrant that seeks to resettle in this rich nation, the overall accomplishment that comes along with the ethos of the “American Dream.” Since our arrival to this this nation, my parents, specifically my father, has worked extremely hard. He has worked in good or bad weather, all to give his family a…

My parents have always motivated me to try my hardest and not give up. They always explain how they would have loved to be role models for my siblings and I. Truth be told, of course I look up to them, they are my motivation. My mother graduated as a cosmetologist a year or 2 ago. She was in her late 30’s to early 40’s. It’s never too late right? There are four children, including me, it was hard at first. We were all dependent of my Father. As of today I can say my Mother never gave up on her dreams.
