Essay #1: Maus analysis Thousands of books have been written about the holocaust, reciting their version of the unspoken events and informing others of the injustice, hoping this will never repeat itself again. Even so, none of those books compare to Maus I and II, Meta comics written by Art Spiegelman in 1986. In these books, the cartoonist tells the story of Valdek Spiegelman, his father, going through Auschwitz. The particularity of his comic is that he illustrated the Jews as mice and the Germans as cats, as well as revealing the hard time he had depicturing these events. As the Misfit and his men slowly kill off her family and her death becomes inevitable, she begins to reflect on her own life. The Grandma begins by trying to convince him to turn to faith. However, as she continues, she sees many of her qualities within the Misfit. She says, ‘“ Why you're one of my babies. You're one of my own children!’ She reached out and touched him on the shoulder.” At this moment, she realizes all of the bad things that she has done in her life and sees that the way she lives her life is the kind of life that breeds a serial killer. Not very many people have the ability to raise a serial killer, allowing the reader to conclude that she lives a life disjointed from society and does not conform to the beliefs that many people live by. As a quick reaction and an attempt to distance himself from the humanity of the grandma, the Misfit, “sprang back as if a snake had bitten him and shot her three times through the chest. Then he put his gun down on the ground and took off his glasses and began to clean them.” This type of connection frightened him, as this is the first sense of connection and care that the Misfit has felt throughout the killing spree. This is much different than how others would face a serial killer. This comes as the grandma comes to good terms with her life. As a result of this, the grandmas deceased body, “half sat and half lay in a puddle of blood with her legs crossed under her like a child's and her face smiling up at the cloudless sky.” This is not how we typically imagine a dead body. The way she is described makes her sound much like a buddha, with her legs crossed and smiling towards the sky. This is something that is typically associated with peace and comfort. This means, that the grandma had come to terms with the bad things that she had done in her life and could now relax and die…

Love is a complicated topic, in my opinion there are two types of love. The first type is when people can tell their friends or their family members that they love them. This type of love is the kind of love where everybody knows their supper close with one another, and will do anything for each another. The second type of love is the love that one person has between another human being, this special someone could be that other human beings soul mate. This type of love is where one person can tell their significant partner anything they want in the world, because they know that they can trust them to be straight up with them.…

All that nervous energy that bounced in him, slammed his heart into his chest, kicked him in his stomach and fried his nerves was all gone and he felt incredibly hollow. Now his face itched from being held in a certain position and his lungs fluttered when they finally expanded. His ribcage was gone and his heart was reluctantly easing itself back to it’s normal pace. He stretched his fingers before him and considered, that maybe, maybe he was overreacting over a crush, but it was L of all people, so he stewed in it. He continued on alone, but didn't feel like walking, so he sat down before one of the films that allowed the survivors to tell their stories during the Holocaust. He half listened half pitter-pattered on his phone until someone sat close to him, he scooted over. Then he felt a very small tap on his arm. He looked up and found a faceless young woman holding this baby, this gorgeous, fat, wide eyed baby. Dark eyes, soft dark skin, and smooth curly hair. The baby gave him a gummy smile and tapped on his shoulder…

The overall tone of this story is hopefulness. The way it happens for 20 years is just insane. So you would imagine after that many years, something would have happened right? I know if I were to pass someone every single day rain or shine and wave to them, something good must come out of it. This guy is absolutely insane for not making a move quicker. The tone seems kind of neutral till the end because it obviously did not go as he planned as neither did she. It went from 100-0 real quick. From neutral to down right depressing.…
