Why I Chose Nursing
In the fall, I will attend Brigham Young University, working to get a bachelor’s degree in nursing. The school, including the nursing program, is extremely competitive. I’m excited for the challenge to stretch myself to be successful. As I looked into BYU’s nursing program, I realized it was something I wanted to be a part of. I love working with children and BYU offers practicums at Primary Children’s hospital where I would eventually like to work. After obtaining my bachelor’s degree, I want to immediately enter the workforce. With some experience, I will return to BYU’s nurse practitioner graduate program. One reason I chose nursing was because I love helping other people. I peer tutor eighth grade students and love watching them gain confidence in their math abilities. Using the knowledge I have to help other people is a passion of mine. I wanted to apply that passion to a career.
Another reason I chose the field of nursing was because I want to impact other people’s lives for good. Often, I accompany my brother to a local children’s hospital for regular checkups. I know the value of an educated and compassionate nurse. I want to pass that on and take care of others when they don’t have the ability to do it themselves. I have …show more content…
I take the initiative to reach my goals and have the motivation to overcome obstacles on my own. I am a capable learner which is best seen in my grades and ACT score of a 31. It took many hours of studying and five attempts for me to reach an ACT score that I was satisfied with. I worked hard to study for my classes to keep my GPA above a 4.0. Last fall, I won fourth place at state for the FFA Farm Bureau prepared public speaking contest. Speaking in front of a group took me a considerable amount of practice with my FFA teacher, family, friends, and even in front of the mirror. I believe this self drive will help me complete the challenging clinical
