I disagree with that article; I lead more to the “10 Reasons Why High School Sports Benefits Students” by Grace Chean. Therefore I disagree that we should ban high school football and college football. First banning high school football and college football would

Youth should not be banned from participating in sports like dodgeball, cheerleading, and football in schools. To begin, dodge ball shouldn’t be banned in school because it teaches kids mental and physical skills. According to Rick Hanthena’s opinion on dodge ball, he says, “He also argues that it teaches hand-eye coordination, concentration and the ability to to think and draw quick conclusions”(pg. 171). This proves that Rick Hanthena wants to keep dodgeball in school because of the lessons it can teach. A reason why cheerleading shouldn’t be banned in schools is because cheerleading coaches are trained and certified. My evidence from Johnson's certification is, “Johnson is an experienced coach with safety training and cheer certifications.…

The primary focus of higher education is academics, or at least it used to be. In the article Why College Football Should Be Banned written by Buzz Bissinger, Bissinger claims that universities today focus more on “the social well-being of students as opposed to the obsession that they are there for the vital and single purpose of learning as much as they can to compete.” (Bissinger 4). I agree that this may be the case, considering college athletic programs have grown exceedingly in the United States over the past few years, causing tuition to increase and making it harder for students to pursue an education.…

College football should think about the rules of the NCAA another way. The NFL makes football players wait three years after graduating high school before entering the draft (Bayless). With such a tight hold on players from the NCAA, means no income for players in that time frame. Outside of room, board, and tuition players should be able to receive payment of some sort. Scholarships looks really great to the outside eye, but scholarships in the market today isn’t worth the same as it was in past decades.…

In a perfect world the athletes we look up to would be law abiding great citizens. They'll give back to the community, do countless hours of community service, fix our schools, parks, and anything else that's asked of them. However, this is no utopia and some of our athletes are not law abiding citizens; with a few of them having multiple run-ins with the law. Being a media crazed era, we are seeing more athletes have run-ins with the law, particularly the National Basketball Association, Major League Baseball, and the National Football League. When someone does do something, instantly people form their own opinion about what a proper punishment is and it seems to point too banning players. With that being said, should the National Football…

In an August 2000 study funded by New York’s Alfred University, 79 percent of college athletes surveyed in the United States have been subjected to hazing. The same study shows that only 12 per cent of athletes think what they went through is hazing. (Keller) The growing epidemic of hazing rituals on the college campus begs the question: Should hazing be allowed on college sports teams? Hazing is a vital part of forming a close-knit unit whether it is for college athletics or even professional athletics. Performing a hazing ritual, as long as it is supervised, should be allowed when initiating rookies into a college athletic team. There should be specific rituals that are allowed, such as rookies having to carry the senior’s bags. These rituals should be approved by the administration and overseen by the coaches.…

There is one sure fire way to burn more calories by playing golf: If the course will allow it, forgo a cart in favor of walking. In 2010, sports scientist Neil Wolkodoff conducted a study using a group of amateur golfers, and found they burned over 700 calories per 9 holes when they walked the course versus just over 400 when they rode in a cart. This means you could burn about a Big Mac’s worth of extra calories by walking an 18-hole round instead of riding.…
