Why Are Strict Gun Laws Important
One of the proudest traditions in American history is the Second Amendment, which states: "A well-regulated militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed." The United States is one of the best countries to own a firearm. In fact, per the United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime, The United States has 88.8 guns per 100 people, or about 270,000,000 guns, which is the highest total and per capita number in the world. Statistics have also shown that gun violence is a major issue. As reported by the National Center for Health Statistics, In 2010, guns took the lives of 31,076 Americans in homicides, suicides and unintentional shootings. Although the second amendment

We have seen extreme cases of what people can do with guns and how states with lenient gun laws have suffered awful firearm tragedies. Let’s take Colorado, for example, their state laws have no restrictions on open carry, (state more reasons for poor gun-control). In relations to poor gun laws, Colorado is also known for a couple of the worst mass shootings in history. In 1999, the Columbine High School massacre, also known as “the deadliest school shooting in history” shooters: Dylan Klebold and Eric Harris murdered 12 students, one teacher, and injured 24 additional people. Additionally, in 2012, a mass shooting occurred inside of a Century 16 movie theater in Aurora, Colorado. 12 people were killed and 70 were injured. More recently, another horrendous incident took place in Ohio, a state that also boasts weak gun-control. Steve Stephens, brazenly gunned down a Cleveland man at random (Pose a question.) These few examples, sadly are just a small fraction of the individuals who have acted uncaringly and under the right regulations should not have had the right to aimlessly carry a
