Who Is Rex's Distant Parents
Rex was also a very distant parent, which was due to his alcoholism. However, he always claimed that he loved his family, and he probably did love them but his behavior showed otherwise. One of his lowest moves was when he technically prostituted his daughter, Janette. While living in Welch he asked Janette to go with him in a business trip. He took her to a bar where he started to drink and play pool for money with a man named Robbie. Rex won and asked Janette to go upstairs with this man. Janette obeyed her parent and when with the man. This man tried to harassed her but stopped when she showed him her scars from when she was little (Walls 212). This made Janette very angry and disappointed because her father had allow this for money.

In part one, Ruth describes her dark and depressing past with her mother who told tales of ghosts, curses and suicides. Ruth seemingly wishes to escape her past and her mother’s volatile behavior. However, when her mother begins to show signs of dementia, Ruth goes back to relive her mother’s past through her autobiography and learns of how much her mother truly loves her. Amy Tan, the author of The Bonesetter’s Daughter, didn’t learn her mother’s true name until after her mother’s death and Ruth reflects this by not fully knowing her mother’s past before it was too late to talk to LuLing about it. Clearly, Tan wishes to emphasize the important bond that is ever-present within a family and how as Tan puts it,” A person should consider how things begin. A particular beginning results in a particular end.” p.153. In order for someone to truly understand who they are and how they got to this point, they have to understand their past and what experiences had shaped their lives before. The second theme is that of how lies can destroy even if original intents were benevolent. Ruth, as a “ghost-writer” doesn’t actually write for herself, rather she writes for other authors. In her childhood, she also symbolically wrote for Precious Auntie whenever LuLing asked her. These lies she told…

Bramble looked like an identical mix of her parents. Just seeing Paul sends another waterfall of tears down my face. Taking a deep breath, I get up and start walking towards the podium. After grabbing onto it for support, I take a deep breath, calm down and look at the paper in my hands. "Bramble Elliot was more than just my boss’s daughter. She was way more than that. She was like the daughter I never had, always so polite and helpful. She never wanted any of us to wait on her. Life with Bramble was always a fun, entertaining show. She made us all laugh when she would walk down the grand staircase dressed to give us a fashion show in these huge fancy dresses and shoes with her makeup and hair done, because it wasn't her. Bramble was a simple girl. If she could've, she would’ve just worn baggy sweatshirts and tights every day to school. She even told me so. Bramble thought she was unloved and that no one would care if she left; boy was she wrong. What could've made a sweet girl like her feel that way? Or more so, who? When I read the note on her door,…

The relationship between a mother, Isabel Amberson, and her son, George (Georgie) Amberson, is an unspoken bond that others cannot begin to fathom. Since the birth of George these two have a connection that can never be broken by an outside force, no matter how hard any person tries. In the novel, The Magnificent Ambersons by Booth Tarkington, Georgie and Isabel’s relationship is seen as unusual and bizarre to their acquaintances because Gerogie commands his mother around like their roles are reversed and he is the parent. However, the fact that Isabel would do anything for George and protect him no matter how atrocious he acts justifies that their connection is still healthy and normal. Ultimately their relationship drives the novel along because his distinct “Amberson” upbringing affects his rationality and his emotions, resulting in his obsession to defend their family status.…

Throughout the last few books of the Odyssey, Homer explains to the reader how Odysseus reestablishes his relationships with his family and friends of Ithaka. It’s possible the restoration of his relationship with his son, Telemachus, is the most significant event of all. This reconnection carries out three main purposes. First, it serves to characterize Telemachus' likeness to his father in the virtues of wisdom, humility, patience, and organization. Secondly, it enables Odysseus a chance to coach Telemachus on how to be a powerful ruler like he is. Lastly, Homer uses the reconnection to highlight the importance of a healthy family structure to a society. To be able to understand the impact this meeting had on Odysseus and Telemachus, it is essential to first look how Telemachus has matured since their last meeting when Telemachus was a newborn and Odysseus was a man (and how their relationship has changed from a man to child relationship to a man to man relationship). Their father-son relationship must be reestablished without any past history in a short amount of time, and they must complete/ “realize” Odysseus’ journey.…
