Introduction Who gains from employee development? Is it the consumer, the employer, or the employees? In reality it should be all of the above. Employers should develop their employees, and help them to learn the skills to build the employees knowledge of the business. That is how it will also help to benefit the consumer. They will enjoy the loyalty in employees, the consistent care they receive from the employee. They employer will also benefit from the loyalty of employees, because the expenses of paying to hire and train new employees will drop, due to the loyalty of their retained employees.

Review/Analysis of the Case
When a company spends extra money on developing their employees, they should see many benefits. One of these benefits being a significant drop in turnover rates. Employee development is a combination of education, work experience, work relationships, and an assessment of personality and their abilities to prepare for future careers (Noe, 2013). The development of employees benefits the employees through training, for new employees it should prepare them for the position they are about to fill. However, ongoing training should help the employee develop new skills to help in their current position as well as build knowledge for their future, even if it won’t be with the current employer. In the end the customer or consumer is benefited by having the same employees help them every time they have contact with the business. For example according to the article, “customers are more satisfied and loyal; because they prefer having the same people clean their homes each time.” (Stern, 2010). This is how you want your consumers to feel, loyal and satisfied.

Employees do feel that they need to stay with the employer after having been paid to train and develop within the company, but it is not a requirement. As suggested by Derek Christian, he made

    Employee development benefits all entities associated with the company. Employees benefit by the training they receive in the development program. “Employees who are well trained will have a better understanding of a business’ goals and mission, which will help them perform better for the company in the long run” (Partner PS, 2012).
