The book, Where The Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls was made in 1961, then turned into a motion film movie in 1974. There were many similarities and differences between the movie and the book. Some things in the book didn't happen in the movie, and the movie moved a lot faster. The movie was more sad than the book though because it showed more detail when the dogs died. In my personal opinion, the book was way better.…
Callie, a shy 15-year-old girl, is admitted to Sea Pines (“a residential treatment facility”) after a school nurse discovers that she's been self-mutilating. At Sea Pines she meets six other girls who are dealing with austere problems of their own, which range from anorexia to substance abuse. Callie refuses to speak to anyone, but after a while, she realizes that she wants help and starts to talk...…
Gladiator. I liked these movies the most because all interested me. The one like I liked the most out of all of these was Unbroken, because it was over a true story. Then my next favorite movie would have had to be The Patriot because it showed us about the war in that time period. It I had to choose three of the movies that I have learned from this semester I would say that my three movies is Unbroken, Apollo 13, and Selma. Unbroken talked about what had happened to him when his plane crashed and he was took by the Japanese and sent to a POW camp tell he was rescued he was also an olympian. Apollo 13 was about a trip to the moon but something bad happened. Selma was…
Would you be willing to sacrIfice your hard earned money to buy a pair of hunting dogs? In the book Where the Red Fern Grows Billy was willing to do just that. Everyone agrees that dogs cost money. Some say Billy should have bought the dogs, while others say he should not have. Billy should have bought hunting dogs for three reasons: he experienced hunting, he learned valuable skills, and it brought him enjoyment.…
The setting of A Tree Grows in Brooklyn, is the Williamsburg section of Brooklyn, NY between 1900-1918. In the exposition, 11-year-old Francie Nolan is introduced as the protagonist, of the coming of age novel. Her family lives in the poor areas of Brooklyn where she is raised and has a close connection to the “Tree of Heaven”. The text illustrates, “For Francie, Saturday started with a trip to the junkie. She and her brother, Neeley, like other Brooklyn kids, collected rags, paper, metal, rubber, and other junk and hoarded it in locked cellar bins or in boxes hidden under the bed…Paper wasn’t worth much. They got only a penny for ten pounds. Rags brought two cents a pound and iron, four. Copper was good—ten cents a pound” (Smith 7). This…
An ax clouting a tree, working stoically for two years, and stumbling through a blizzard; these situations show just how much determination Billy Coleman has stored in his body. This young boy shows the readers of the novel, Where The Red Fern Grows just how much persistence is useful in our lives, whether they be as exciting as Billy’s or day-to-day lives…
Have you ever read a classic? If so, did you like it? I recently read Where the Red Fern Grows by Wilson Rawls. It was amazing!…
Everyone has a purpose in life, which is just like a story with a theme. The theme of the story is that even in the ugliest situations you can find beauty if you’re willing to look for it. Theme is the underlying message that the author wants the reader to know. When i look at this story i look at the lives of people who would kill to be in our position. Gratefulness should be expressed in every situation despite what it is and by the little girl tearing up the marigolds it took the beauty from ms. lottie’s heart.…
I think this movie reminds me of how there is a lot of judgment in our society and that people aren’t even the given a chance prove themselves. In the movie, an ogre named Shrek goes on an adventure to free his swamp of all the creatures banished there. Along the way he is made fun of, feared, and hunted just because of what he is. During the movie, you learn of his true nature and that he is completely different from what others expect him to be. This movie reminds me of the golden rule we are taught in school to be better people. Treat…
My favorite movie was “The Vow” by Michael Sucsy, with the main characters being Channing Tatum as Leo and Rachel McAdams as Paige. The plot of the movie is Leo and Paige are driving around and they stop at a stop sign and Paige unbuckles her seatbelt, but just when they are about to kiss a big truck slams into their vehicle causing Paige to fly through the windshield. She ends up in the hospital and finds out she had brain hemorrhaging and she loses her memory of falling in love with Leo, or even knowing who he was. Leo is upset and thinks he will never get Paige to love him again. Paige and her parents weren’t talking and her parents come to the hospital and want to take her home with them, but Leo insist she goes back with him to regain some of her memory from her old life. Paige is very confused about her life and marriage with Leo. Towards the end of the movie Leo finally accepts the fact that Paige won’t remember their love but Leo treats her like they just met. He asks her to go on her “first” date with him and their “first” everything. Paige’s doctor tells her to fix the holes in her life and not be afraid of things from her old life. Leo and Paige separate for a while but in the end they get back together even through her memory is not fully there.…
My latest film experience was Shrek 2. Shrek 2 is a new release animation film. This is a great flick using the new state of the art animation. Shrek is not just a kid's movie, but adults also find it funny. The movie is about an ogre named Shrek, who lives in a swamp. Shrek spent his whole life living in sham, because he was an ogre, and all the other creatures, and people felt threatened by him. Shrek meets a donkey played by Eddy Murphy, and they become friends. Later in the movie Shrek meets a beautiful princess named Fionia. Shrek, and Fionia fall in love, and go to ask for her father the king for his blessing in marriage. Instead they run into several problems the king does not approve of the marriage, and tries every thing in his power to separate them. The king opposed their marriage, because a princess can not marry an ogre, and live happily ever after... Shrek and Fionia are ugly green ogres who are constantly mistreated for their looks and race, but over come all the stereo types. Shrek teaches people not to judge other people by…
My number one favorite films of all time is Jurassic Park. Stephen Spielberg created a realistic fantasy of a world in which dinosaurs one ruled the Earth. The combination of a surprising story, which was derived from a best-selling novel, told through clever dialogue and humor, with a hints of startling violence, thrilling special effects, and an accompanying John Williams score was a unique alignment few films ever meet.…
The film “Sassy Pants” was also enjoyable because of its charm. There may have been some awkward scenes, but that was drowned out by charming or adorable, scenes. There aren’t really specific scenes that it occurs that are major, but it is sort of spread out throughout the whole movie. Even the tragic or sad scenes were well layed out and I just enjoyed the effect they had…
