When is lying ok? In the four articles it tells us about what people think about lying. It tells us on how they use it on their daily lives. Also they explain to us on how the people that lie start of with a little lie and continue with other little lies to know when they lie and not get themselves on the evidence with the person they told the lie to. And the persons who believe we should never lie will never accept lying. So the four articles tell us of the different reasons people lie for or the situations they use excuses to lie. Some people think you should never lie, others think you should always lie, others think you should sometimes lie. I believe you should sometimes lie.

I believe you can sometimes lie because you are doing it to protect yourself. If you lie your not hurting anyone you are just helping yourself not get in trouble. It's going to be for a good reason. And it's not going to affect anyone if you lie. So you lie to get away with something. Or maybe you lie to out stand your own person. You say a lie to impress people. So it is ok to lie in certain situations, like protecting someone’s feelings. You can lie to people as long as you are protecting them and not harming them. You are doing it to make them feel ok and not that bad. Sometimes telling someone a white lie can be a matter of life or death. So it's better if you tell them a lie because it will keep them happy but if you tell them the truth it might hurt them even more than the

An issue that has been highly controversial regarding honesty has been whether it is ever right to lie. Some people would argue that lying is not always morally wrong. From this perspective, telling a lie can be beneficial because the truth sometimes causes more damage than a lie would. To illustrate, a person might lie about how someone looks so that they are not offended. However, others argue that it is never morally right to lie. Stephanie Ericsson, who maintains this view, argues in her essay “The Ways We Lie” that “When someone lies, someone loses” (425). According to this view, a lie always leads to someone being negatively affected. Therefore, lying is wrong because it always results in someone being harmed. In sum, the issue is whether lying is moral or immoral.…

The debate over the acceptability of lying is a complicated one. Some feel that it is morally wrong and only ever worsens a situation. Others feel that it is acceptable in cases where feelings could be hurt, or if a person’s self-esteem may be lowered. However, there are instances in which lying happens simply to avoid the consequences of a person’s actions, and most would agree that it is morally wrong. Instead of going back and forth between “lying is wrong” and “lying is okay sometimes,” a better use of our time would be learning to improve our honesty with ourselves and with the people around…

First off let me start of by saying that we lie. We all do. We exaggerate, we leave out things, we avoid confrontation, we try to be inconsideration of other people feelings, we conveniently forget some aspects of the truth and even keep secrets. Like most people, I find myself in situations of small falsehoods and still think of my self of an honest person. Sure I lie, but it’s not really bothering anyone or anything.…

Lying can be used as a way to respond to conflict. I am sure that at least once in your life you have lied about something to protect yourself or someone else. In the story “The Diary of Anne Frank” Anne is a Jewish girl hiding with her family from the Nazis. While in the annex, they have friends who keep their secret by lying about their location so they don’t get caught. (Frank 122-124) Another example would be the book “The Boy In The Striped Pajamas”. The young boy Bruno thinks the concentration camps near his new house are farms, his mother and father refuse to tell him what it actually is. Bruno lies to…

Being raised in the Capitalist system based on competition, we were taught that it was fine to tell lie. Some argued that it was fine to lie when it is a death and live matter, others may argue that it is o.k to lie if it doesn't hurt any one. On my personal level, I don't feel it is morally comfortable to lie to anyone. Because of the society we live in is filled with lies and mistrust doesn't mean we, as the newest generation should learn to lie. Instead, I want to live in a lie free life.…

When it pertains to lying, I believe it is morally permissible to lie to someone given a specific situation. The most imperative circumstance in which lying has the potential to make more people happy is when it applied to prevent harm/protecting someone’s life. Lying is the right thing to do in this situation as it safeguards your fellow man. According to Emanuel Kant (2008), “Immediately I realize that I could will •the lie but not •a universal law to lie; for such a law would result in there being no promises at all, because it would be futile to offer stories about my future conduct to people who wouldn’t believe me; or if they carelessly did believe me and were taken in ·by my promise·, would pay me back in my own coin.” (p12) Kant believes…

Some may feel that lying is never acceptable, because it’s morally wrong, however, I believe lying is acceptable when it can be used to protect others. Cohen states in article 1 “ If you’re on the way to an awards ceremony, you say, you look fabulous” For example you wouldn’t want to hurt your friends feelings so you would tell them a lie to keep them from misunderstanding. Marianna states in article 4 that “We would pretend to call each other’s homes and be the teacher. For instance, if you would want to protect your friends from getting in trouble you would do anything for them.…

Would you like to be one of the sick people that lie as part of their daily lives? I’m sure that I wouldn’t. I agree with the author’s’ beliefs that nobody should ever have to lie.…

In the article It’s the Truth: Americans Conflicted About Lying written by Life on NBCNEWS.com, it states in the second paragraph; “in a new Associated Press-Ipsos poll, over half of the respondents said lying was never justified. Yet in the same poll, up to two-thirds said it was OK to lie in certain situations, like protecting someone’s feelings.” It also states in paragraph seven, “nearly two-thirds of Americans agree. In the AP-Ipsos poll, 65 percent of those questioned said it was sometimes OK to lie to avoid hurting someone’s feelings, even though 52 percent said lying, overall, was never justified.” With this being stated, these quotations not only show that most individuals agree that lying is, overall, justified but that it is acceptable to lie such as when something such as a relationship is at stake. Also, in the article it also states in the tenth paragraph, “not only is lying justified, it is sometimes a moral duty,” says Cohen. An obvious example is when you’re lying to protect someone from serious harm. But much less extreme cases often call for lies, Cohen says.” Through these quotations, it is shown that lying, in extreme cases and less extreme cases alike, can be used to protect another from serious harm or a manner such as emotions as responses…
