Critical Lens Essay About Truth
Sherzod Rahmatullayev 03.06.2015 The Quote “ the truth is often unpopular “ by Adlai Stevenson means that many people like to lie to the others, it is easier to lie because truth can hurt the people. In case like tragic news people would like to lie because they do not want to hurt other people with this kind of news. Two works of literature that support the quote are “ the cask of amontillado “ by Edgar Allan Poe and “ the tiger’s heart “ by Jim Kjelgaard. The cask of amontillado by Edgar Allan Poe is about Two characters
Montresson and Fortunato, Montresson wants to get his revenge because he had been insulted by Fortunato. One example of lying in the story would be when
Montressor smiles and talks nicely to Fortunato but inside he wants to get revenge. It is through the author’s use of foreshadowing that Montresson kills
Fortunato in a damp vault. Montressor finds Fortunato’s weaknesses to use that against him. Montressor lies to Montressor to manipulate him. Montressor uses vine to make Fortunato more drunk, it foreshadows me that Montresson wants to kill him immediately so Fortunato would not know about his plans. This Novel supports the quote because it tells how characters lies to the other character untill the day that he would get revenge. The tiger’s heart by Jim Kjelgaard is about person who lives in a dangerous village and the only person who has a gun in there and his name is Pepe Garcia .
One example of lying in the story is when Pepe kill the tiger with machete but he does not want other people to know about it. Furthermore, by pulling out machete from tiger and shoot to wound to show that he killed a tiger with gun. It is through the author’s use of conflict that Pepe wants to hide a truth because if people from the village would know tiger died by gun then they would not ask help for next time. So Pepe shoot to wound to how he killed the tiger because he afraid to

The dictionary defines a lie as, “a false statement made with deliberate intent to deceive; an intentional untruth; a falsehood.” However, while the intent of a lie is to deceive, that deceit is not always intended to cause detriment to others. Lies can be told for justifiable reasons such as to protect the feelings of others, but more often lies are told for the wrong reasons. For example, lies are mostly told to avoid the consequences of one’s actions such as with criminal activities and academic misconduct. When comparing acceptable and unacceptable reasons to lie, the unacceptable reasons greatly outnumber the acceptable.…

We exaggerate, we leave out things, we avoid confrontation, we try to be inconsideration of other people feelings, we conveniently forget some aspects of the truth and even keep secrets. There are many different ways people can lie. Usually when someone starts discussing lying people immediately think of what is called a direct lie; this is when someone says something that is literally untrue, this being the most offensive way of lying. An example of a direct lie is when an employee lies to their boss about why they didn’t come to work saying they were sick, when they really were going shopping instead.…
