What rights & responsibilities do teenagers have?
One responsibility teenagers should have is self-discipline as it allows them to have order in life. Self-discipline is essential to succeed in life as it is necessary to express various virtues such as respect, punctuality and good temper. Therefore, without self-discipline, there is little chance to succeed in life as self-discipline is the determining factor of how others judge you. Being the future generation of our society, it is important that youths or teenager abide by certain rules or norms of life and be responsible for their own actions in order to ensure peace and stability in the country. Otherwise it would affect the country’s economic progress and political stability in future. There is no purpose in merely obtaining academic achievements without self-discipline because no one would approach or befriend you as you lack the virtues a decent human should have in the modern society. Even as an adult, self-discipline is needed as you will be assigned to various tasks in the workforce and you would have to be responsible to complete it. Even someone who has a high status must have self-discipline, otherwise certain consequences might follow. For example, a law professor from National University of Singapore is having trials due to his sex-for-grades corruption case. He gave better grades in exchange for accepting sex and gifts from a female student. His lack of honesty is what resulted in his current state. Had he been self-disciplined and fulfill his duty as a professor, he would not have to worry about this issue. Therefore, it is vital for teenagers to have self-discipline to ensure the survival of our society.
