RESPONSIBILITY OF STUDENTS
“In the long run/ we shape our lives/ and we shape ourselves//. The process never ends until we die. And the choices we make/ are ultimately our own responsibility.// (Eleanor Roosevelt)
Being responsible/ is a learned behavior. Sometimes// we want everything to be easy. I often hear some students say /"Bakit may P.E tayo, hindi naman natin magagamit pag nagtrabaho na tayo”. We have so many complaints in terms our studies. As Mr. Olarte once said “Kapag nag enrolll ka siguraduhin mong papasukan mo yung mga klase mo.” Most of us /take our studies for granted/ not taking in consideration the effects of these actions/ to our future. So//, why do we need to take responsibility of our studies? They say /that education is not a choice//, it is a privilege.// We all know/ that not all students who finished their secondary education /can afford to take up college. Fellow classmates// we are very lucky to be here in SMU,// taking up our own choice of profession. So why we not taking advantage of this given opportunity?
Many students don’t attend their classes. Some would prioritize playing DOTA,/ waste their time in drinking and smoking rather than finishing their school requirements. Some practice cheating and academic dishonesty, instead of studying hard for their exams.
These irresponsible students don’t think of the consequences of their actions. And as a result? Failing grades and disappointment of parents. And yes//, later, regrets. Tons of them.
By being responsible, accountable and dependable. I believe that every one of us could achieve whatever goals we have set for our lives. Just always remind yourself that every decision and actions that you will make entails a big responsibility. And as a student you know what your responsibilities are.
We should be actively involved in the learning process and should behave appropriately for a learning environment. Attend all your classes and listen carefully. Put a sufficient time

Another responsibility, and the most important to me, is balancing personal and school life. A lot of college students these days are married, have children, or have jobs that require a lot of their time. You have to be prepared to sacrifice some things to succeed at school. They back talk teachers, skip class, and get up and leave class. Some students don’t care about school and their grades, most of them don’t even do their homework and half the time they fail test/quizes. So they’ll probably be a decrease in grades, and maybe even an increases in absents. On the other hand there’s students who want to learn, get good grades, and they take the time to study for tests/quizes so they don’t fail. But they may be getting home later so they won’t have time to study or do homework, but if they study they’ll be going to bed late so in the morning they may be feeling tired and worn out.…

Better grades could possibly mean better jobs and eventually more money. Student these days are cheating more than ever and that’s because getting a good education is basically a matter of economic life and death (Kress, p. 21). Personal responsibility is the ability to be in control of ones life in terms of actions, emotions, etc.... Students who do not have personal responsibility concerning their lives are prone to influences of doing what others are doing by just following them without proper reasons. This lack of self-control comes about because any individual without a sense of personal responsibility will always be irresponsible. A student without personal responsibility will blame the lecture for failing in the exam when a responsible student with personal responsibility will rather analyze the reasons behind his/her failure and decide to take action to pass the exam. This explains why students who have a sense of personal responsibility have higher scores than those without personal responsibility (Bourbon,…

Students who get the system of studying know that good grades lead to more freedom and responsibility in life. Some only want to have fun and focus on other things but it is said that their refusal to study did not fulfill them that is why they feel guilty and realize a need to change. This being said, all students are encouraged to take their studies seriously. Because in our generation, the youth tend to give in to the things that will give them immediate yet temporary happiness than happiness that might take long to have yet it will last longer. Students must all know that every moment of education is important because the pleasures of today have no assurance that they will still exist tomorrow. We might say that we have attained freedom through our reckless acts as a child, through our ignorance towards studies but these will all backfire on us in the future. They consequences that will be put upon us will be sevenfold. As the saying goes, “What goes around, comes around.” same with our present to future education.…
