What Interrupts Suicide Attempts In Men: Qualitative Study
Synopsis
This paper will focus on the proposed methods and Literature Review on the topic of why is there a disproportionate gap between male suicide rate and that of females? Appropriate research methods will be proposed and critically analysed. Some sociological narratives around the social construction of masculinities will be also explored.
Current situation
As of now, there seems to be a deficiency when it comes to understanding the ‘how’ and ‘why’ of males at risk of suicide. Observation of behavioral patterns of our participants will be made. The secondary data from existing researchers will be used, that is information gathered from previous interviews and questionnaires will serve as a yardstick to enhance our research. Interacting with participants in the presence of recording devices will provide a video active context for our research. Ethnographic study will allow us to understand the gist of how the culture and beliefs of a community affect the behaviors and thoughts of individuals within the community. This method of research will allow for a simpler and inexpensive approach to gather information from knowledgeable people and provide flexibility to explore new ideas and issues that are not necessarily anticipated during our planning. The Mindframe National Media Initiative used the same method for media professionals on the reporting of suicide and mental illness.
