Depression is a major risk factor for suicide. The deep despair and hopelessness that is associated with depression often makes suicide seem like the only way to escape the pain. Thoughts of death or suicide are a serious symptom of depression.
For this assignment, search the internet and locate a suicide risk assessment instrument (website, quiz, questionnaire, etc) and discuss the risk factors for suicide that are identified in the assessment. What role does depression play in suicide in regards to one’s age, gender, ethnicity, and socioeconomic status? How do these particular variables correlate to, and what impact do they have on suicide rates?
