Case Study Week 3 – Building a Coalition
Part I: Group Development
The state that this group is at right now is the “storming stage”(Robbins & Judge, 2013). Even though there are clear differences on the thinking of different groups of how to implement the after school program or who should head it, the common goal is still to meet the needs of the students and to better their learning and scores. The Woodson Foundation, the school and the NCPIE are coming together to form a development team but is having conflict on who will control the group and this is clearly a sign that the group is in its “storming stage”. My next solution came from what we have discussed this week which is the “Hawthorne studies”. I remember the quote that my classmate Hugh had posted: “If everyone is special, then no one is”. We may be able to use positive recognition and remove the negative feelings towards each other. For instance, when the candidates are chosen, I would phrase it as “You three are handpicked from hundreds of candidate. We feel that only you guys are qualified to make this mission succeed. I believe by making them feel that they are the only ones that can accomplish this goal, they will work as hard as they can to make their groups come together. This will eliminate the difference they feel towards each other’s believes and also expand into trying to convince others to work together as well. As more people get on board with the idea, we can form sub teams under the leaders of the team and inform them also that they will now be the “special” bunch that need to spread the word among the public about how important it is to be part of this project and make it work. This will eventually have a ripple effect. The pro about this project is that it will bring people together and eliminate the differences. The cons would be that if anyone realizes that they are not “special” and everyone is “special” , then this effect will fade. Therefore, other incentives can be added which is discussed

I have a very small group of people that I go to for advice because I usually try to figure things out on my own. One person I would always go to for advice was my high school counselor, Mr. Menchaca. He was the one who helped me figure out I want to go into a career that helps people and he was the one who helped me with what classes to take I in order to get to where I want to be. I still don’t know anyone who is in that field but I am trying to find someone who is that will help guide me to be a paramedic with knowledge and experience that they have had to obtain in order to be where they are. “School leaders should allocate sufficient time to get to know organizations before inviting them to begin partnerships, learn more about an organization’s goals and time commitment” (Bonnie etl., 2009). This is the same for groups looking to partner with schools. An organization should not just show up for program implementation, that is not a good way for the schools and the families to get to know the organization and learn what they are about and their reasoning behind partnering up with the school. “collaborative partnership do not, in themselves, reduce risks for adolescent violence and school failure, positive youth outcomes are more likely to be achieved when partnerships are equipped for developing and managing” (Bonnie etl.,…

Some of the current changes that can be seen in regards to prescription privileges include changes in the ways that physicians and mental health professionals are able to prescribe medications to their patients. According to Brenda Smith of the APA (2012), currently patients receive their medications for psychological conditions by a physician usually without having been evaluated by a mental health practitioner according to the CDC. The trend includes individuals to visit their general health practitioners in order to receive psychotropic medications such as antidepressants and anxiolytics. The problem with individuals receiving these medications from other sources include: deterrence from alternate treatment interventions that include CBT or psychoanalysis. Changes currently described as happening in the realm of prescription privileges include the expansion of prescription writing privileges to mental health professional such as license psychologists that are well-versed in psychopharmacology as well as the dangers of overuse and over prescription of psychotropic medications. According to the American psychological Association (Smith, 2012), several states programs for psychologists designed in respect to prescription privileged programs have been approved. The states include Louisiana, New Mexico and the US armed forces. Additionally according to the American psychological Association (Smith, 2012), there are several bills being considered in many other states regarding the expansion of prescription drug privileges but many of these measures have been met by opposition from the American Medical Association and the American psychiatric Association due to concerns about the adequacy of each training programs in dispensing of prescription medication and overall patient safety.…
