What Does It Mean To Work In A Group Essay
What does it mean to work in a group? The meaning of teamwork may vary for each individual. Working in a group can either be a great or terrible experience. A good effective team is when each individual does his or her part and the group communicates with each other. An ineffective team could be caused by the lack of communication, individuals not completing their part, or group members disliking one another. With every group experience, one has to be able to adjust and learn how to be a better group member.
Majority of the group work that I have been in are in the academia settings. Whether it was a group for a class project or presentation. I would hate working in groups because there was always one student who didn’t do his or her part. One student would always be left to do all of the work that the other student did not do. When it was time to meet, people would come up with a reason why they could not attend, come late, or not being

Reading twenty seven stuck out to me the most. It was in titled “Moving Teams through Stages Toward Success” The four steps that were given are forming, storming, norming, and performing. Forming is getting to know the group members. Storming is a time of stressful negotiation of the terms under which the team will work together; trial by fire. Norming is a time in which roles are accepted, team feeling develops, and information is freely shared. Performing is when optimal levels are finally realized. My group failed during the performing stage. We did not realize that I couldn’t do all of the setting up by myself. No matter how hard UI worked, it was impossible. I had to reach out to my friend to assist me. However, my group members realized that I had over worked trying to setup that they would do the cleanup part and have others assist them. This allowed us to grow as a group because my group saw I was tired so they would take over for

Throughout my educational career, I have always disliked group work. To me, group work is only beneficial to those individuals that normally do poorly on projects and who view the opportunity of working in a group as a chance to improve their own grades at the cost of the other individuals in the group. When working on a project on my own, I strive for perfection by watching every detail closely—from the font on a page to the alignment of sentences on a PowerPoint presentation. But, since I am not my own teacher and because I am not able to assign myself my own homework assignments, I have had to work in groups on many occasions. And although I continue to strive for perfection while working on a group project, this is not always possible—and so to me, completing a group project that does not satisfy my own perfect standards leads to heartbreak each and every single time.…

We believe the best definition of a team is from the book Wisdom of Teams. "A team is a small group of people with complementary skills and abilities who are committed to a common goal and approach for which they hold each other accountable." Let's pick this definition apart. The best size for teams is 7-12 individuals. Larger teams require more structure and support; smaller teams often have difficulty meeting when members are absent. Members have skills and abilities that complement the team's purpose. Not all members have the same skills, but together they are greater than the sum of their parts. On teams, members share roles and responsibilities and are constantly developing new skills to improve the team's performance. Teams identify and reach consensus on their common goal and approach, rather than looking to a leader to define the goal and approach. Most importantly, teams hold their members accountable. What does this mean in practical terms? When they experience conflict with a member, they speak to that member directly rather than to a supervisor. When a member isn't performing to the level required, the team addresses the performance problem.…

Team means “Together Everyone Achieves More”. Teamwork is the ability to work together towards a common vision. Teamwork is all about caring for each other. Teamwork is everywhere. The individual efforts result in a level of performance that is greater than the sum of those individual efforts. Weaknesses of one member can be supported by stronger members who will make the results better and more effective than a person doing it individually. Without teamwork you would not be able to complete things that require the help of others such as building a house, running a factory, or even picking food products. With teamwork relationships and friendships are formed, work gets done, and teamwork teaches you responsibility. It requires you work together in form of trust. In teamwork you learn from other, if someone makes a mistake then there is an opportunity for others to learn from it and try not to do it again. To make the team succeed there should be a good leader to motivate the team. When talking about one man army it is clear that there is only one person with one talent whereas team has multi-talent because each has a different spatiality. The team is stronger, like it is said "Two heads are better than one". Individual effort takes a lot of time to accomplish a task but the team divides the task and accomplishes it in a shortest time. Disadvantages of teamwork also leads to interdependency as tasks are divided among the workers but if one worker is absent or unwilling to work, the entire group will have to suffer. Not all members of the group will undertake their tasks on time and can let the entire group down. Not all members will have the same strengths and weaknesses. If ideas of different members conflict, it can have very adverse effect on the performance of the entire team. Despite having many disadvantages, the advantages of teamwork outweigh them. There is a famous saying,” Teamwork divides the task and multiplies the success” which shows the…
