What Does Betrayal Mean
As long as I live, I will never tolerate the concept of betrayal. Oh, don't get me wrong, I comprehend completely the meaning of the word and all the subtle, nasty nuances associated with committing the act itself. What I cannot do, and to a lesser extent refuse to do, is accept how someone can graciously open their world to you like they're opening a chest full of rare, precious treasures one day and the next, slam the lid down, smashing your fingers in the process, carelessly plucking you from it the next. That's exactly what happened to me, and let me state for the record, I did nothing to deserve such harsh treatment.

As a result, to the other side of the tracks, I was banished, and as far as I can tell, I did nothing to warrant expulsion

A quote stated on page seven of Nan Mooney’s book, I can’t Believe She Did That, Why Women Betray Other Women at Work has a large effect on how women portray themselves on a daily basis. The quote explains that women are not raised to be competitive, whereas men are. Mooney then goes on to say that women are told they need to be generous and supportive to other females. Having this mentality from such a young age, women are often left feeling disappointed by their female coworkers when they feel they are being treated unfairly. Why should women feel as though they should receive special treatment from other women, and why is it socially accepted for men to be allowed to step all over women in the workplace?…

“Oryx and Crake” by Margret Atwood and “The Quiet American” by Phillip Noyce are both created at different eras but both demonstrate a very similar thematic connection. Betrayal is show through out the Novel “Oryx and Crake” and the film “The Quiet American”. In the film diolacton is used for illegal making and in the text the blysspluss pill is sold. In the film people believe that the diolacton is used to help people by making the frames of glasses but really it is used for the illegal making of bomb that killed many people. In the text people believe that the blysspluss pill was used to help people but that was used to wipe out humanity. The significance of this is because in the film Pyle makes it look like he is using the diolacton for the frames of glasses but he betrays his own and kills them. In the text Crake betrayed humanity by making the pill to wipe out humanity. The betrayal to humanity quickly escalated to Jimmy betraying his own friend Crake and Fowler betraying Pyle. Fowler suspected that Pyle was using the diolacton for the bombs when Fowler watched the car bomb go off in downtown city while having lunch. His suspicions were correct. Jimmy also suspected that Crake used the blysspluss pill to wipe out humanity. Jimmy too was correct. The significance of these parallels is that even though Crake and Pyle did two totally different illegal things. When their close…

Has someone ever shown a lack of responsibility in an action and then committed betrayal to avoid consequences for their action? Ethical appeals have been used in stories since their existence and have often depicted betrayal and responsibility. In the novel Frankenstein by Mary Shelley, the movie The Incredibles directed by Brad Bird, and director Doug Liman’s Mr. And Mrs. Smith, betrayal is depicted as the best choice of certain characters for their problems. These works illustrate that people betray others to avoid consequences or a negative outcome from an action.…

Betrayal is not a necessary part of life as evidenced in Roald Dahl’s “Lamb to the Slaughter” And Shirley Jackson’s “The lottery”. Lamb to the Slaughter was a story where. Mary Maloney was going to have a son, but the husband had to leave because having a family wasn't going to be good for his job as a detective. Leaving her is an act of betrayal “I know it’s a bad time to be telling you this, but there was simply wasn't any other way. Of course, I’ll give you money and see you’re looked after” (Dalh Pg.2). Betrayal should not be a necessary part of life because the husband wants to leave her and the unborn baby. He wants to leave his family just because of his job. He maybe does this for their protection, but he betraying the family. Mary…

Loyalty is something that I take very serious to an extreme level. Believing in the things I believe in has helped me chose the crowds I hang with or associate myself with. My faith doesn’t allow me to neglect anyone and I choose to simply not neglect. I associate with all people of all crowds no matter what, what matters is who I consider calling a “friend”. Being called a friend doesn’t have anything to do with their status or popularity but if I believe that they truly have my best interest. Someone that knows I’m loyal to them just like they are loyal to me. My mother was my ultimate friend and once said to me “Joe some people would buy a front row ticket just to watch you struggle”. I never understood that until a few years back after going through the line of betrayal I had faced from friends, even family. I mean to have family members look you into the eye and tell you they have your back or will come through for you on something and don’t, it hurts. I understand no one is perfect but when it becomes routine it allows you to become stronger, better and selective about whom you accept as a true friend. I have learned that everyone isn’t meant to be your friend and I’m okay with that, it’s taken some time, but I’ve grown and learned to accept it. It’s nothing I take personal, I just now strive to be a positive impact or have a positive role in every life I associate myself with. So even with knowing that some won’t be loyal, I still allow myself to forgive and move forward hoping they learn the what positivity can do to one’s life.…

Betrayal in the play ultimately leads to the downfall of many main characters; weather it be betrayal of companions or of their original ideals and morals. If we take the example of Enobarbus’ case, his decline from the strict Roman ethics into the looser morals that symbolise more Egyptian ideals, leads him to betray his general and friend, Antony. Enobarbus then goes onto to die of the guilt and broken heartedness he experiences as a result of his treachery towards Antony and his own moral compass. It is however arguable that Enobarbus traitorous nature is only an outcome and reflection of Antony’s own crumbling roman beliefs. If we take the exchange between Cleopatra and Enobarbus in Act 3, scene 12 lines 2- 12 we can see that Enobarbus lays absolutely none of the blame on Cleopatra’s shoulders but instead tears the Antony to shreds, at one point saying “ The itch of his affection should not then have nicked his captainship, at such a point when half to half the world opposed, he being the mered question”. In these lines Enobarbus says that Antony should not have let his lust (an Egyptian quality) destroy his ability as a general and his duty to his men, at such an incredibly crucial juncture in the battle, especially when the stakes were so high and he was such a key component in the outcome. Shakespeare uses the word affection, which can be read to mean lust. Lust is a trait that Shakespeare lists as an Egyptian quality, and it is vital to note his choice in diction; to stress that the action was not disciplined and Roman but a betrayal of Antony’s Roman nature. There is no mention of the love Antony has for Cleopatra. He also allows us to see Enobarbus’s view that nothing about this was justifiable or right, and that there were no higher motives moving Antony, rather he was pushed into actions by his baser and more primitive emotions such as cowardice and lust saying Antony’s reasons, whatever they may have been, were trivial and unacceptable. The…

My former husband was cheating on me: I knew that much I just had no idea that he was cheating with two different women at the same time. One woman he got pregnant and married the other was my best friend or so I thought. I first became suspicious when I discovered she knew exactly where my former husband hid his cigarettes and alcohol. I ignored those clues; I just could not bring myself to believe she was having sex with my former husband. She knew we were having problems and even told me at one point she would gladly testify in the divorce trial if she were needed. I told her of coarse she was needed; I had to prove he was cheating on me and that he was continually abusive to me and my daughters. Imagine my surprise when she reneged and refused to testify.…
