What Are The Strength And Weakness Of Tutoring
Since the tenth grade I have been tutoring many students; these students have all demonstrated a wide range of abilities, in both their strengths and weaknesses, and which span across several subject areas. I began tutoring in a program at my high school called I-Block. The school offered tutoring program was developed in order to allow for older, eligible students to help mentor and educate younger students who showed difficulties within their studies. Since tutoring in I-Block I have developed my own skills through not only my formal education, but also through autonomous learning. When graduating from high school in 2008, I began my post-secondary education with plans to become an Elementary school teacher. I continued with my educating practice through tutoring, and met my current grade nine student who is part of the Learning Assistance program at her high school. My student has dyslexia and struggles most in her mathematic abilities. This was my first time tutoring a student with dyslexia, and I was happy to learn how to help her with her learning; I struggled, however, to determine the best approach. As an aspiring educator, I believe that in order to be the most effective teacher, I need to teach in a variety of ways. In doing so, I will help promote a more inclusive learning environment for all my students, by reaching their individual needs and optimal learning experiences; this will allow them to reach their fullest potentials. I have learned that as an educator I must assist each child within their educational journey and as I have developed my autonomous learning through tutoring, I want to guide each child through their own autonomous learning experience.
