The Nursing field has made multiple changes throughout the history of its creation. Nurses are actually getting paid for their services. Doctors are starting to respect them for who they are and what they do. The knowledge required for the career of nursing keeps increasing. “The Obama administration’s goals for health care reform include going “paperless,” that is, that all medical orders, patients’ records and other documents will be digitally stored and available for convenient transmittal across various record systems and health care facilities”(Chitty & Black, 2011, p. 53). Nurses need to know how to use and store information into computers.
Nurses have come a long way with the advances in education. They can acquire diploma degrees up to more advanced degrees such as a Master’s Degree or PhD. Nurses with PhD’s can now prescribe medications.
“What is a doctor? What is a nurse?” Thirty years ago this would have been an absurd question. Not only would it have been absurd for doctors and nurses, but for patients too. Roles were clearly delineated within the disciplines, and the white coat indicated a doctor and the white uniform and cap identified the nurse. (Leng, 2013, para.1).
The advances nurses have made in the past are extreme and they are only increasing. The times have changed but they are only going to get better. With continued education nurses will have the confidence knowing they are doing the best for their patients and
