Kudler Fine Foods has contracted Smith Consulting to develop and implement a Frequent Shopper Program. The goal of this program is to further develop customer loyalty while tracking customer behavior. Smith Consulting will be in control of the development of a hardware platform, network connections, software development tools, database information, user interfaces, controls, and security measures.
Hardware Platform
The three locations that are included in the development are in La Jolla, Del Mar, and Encinitas. Each of these locations will consist of the exact same hardware platforms in order for the new program to work effectively. At the present time, only La Jolla and Del Mar have the same hardware setup, which consists of the following:
• Novell 4.11 Server for POS
• 4 POS PII WIN9x Terminals
• 10.1.50.0 Ethernet Network
• UPS Standalone
• PII 64 mg RAM WIN9x with Office 97 (Server) connected to a printer and an external CD burner
• PII w NT Server IIS4 WinFax Pro Built-In Modem and CDROM Reader
• 56k Modem for complete Internet access throughout
The 56k Modems available at each location will have to be replaced with a DSL or Broadband connection in order for the new program to have the correct amount of power needed to be efficient. The current POS System will be able to track the Frequent Shopper Program through a barcode system. The current barcode system used by Kudler Fine Foods can easily be customized for this purpose.
Network Connections
Kudler Fine Food's main network connection type is a virtual private network, also called a VPN. This is a fully secured network that enables each of the locations that are using the Frequent Shopper Program to connect to the Kudler Fine Foods Corporate Headquarters in order to share files within the system. The VPN will also allow each location to link to one another so that all aspects of the company can be tracked.
