Walter Payton Biography Essay
Walter Payton was born in Columbia, Mississippi in 1954 and entered the family of Eddie(his big brother) and Pam(his little sister). In the early years of Walter’s life it was mostly just a lot of hard work. Walter and his brother Eddie would have spread soil in his yard all through the summer because the rain would wash a lot of it away. But he found his way around that. He got up early and make breakfast then run to the school yard to play football before his mom woke up to make him work. In school Walter didn’t play football for his school until he was a freshman and he only did because the sophomore coach asked him to. In middle school he was already a star athlete. He had the school record for high jump 22 ft 11 in. He also play basketball and the drums. But when his career really took off was when he decided to play football. Walter averaged eighteen points per game his high school career he was the star of the football team. He could have went to big name colleges for no money at all, but he went to jackson state university. Walter payton signed with the chicago bears in 1975 although not his first choice he really wanted to go to the Dallas Cowboys. When he got to Chicago he was absolutely awestruck at how cold and windy it was. All he was ever used to was the hot humid mississippi air. His rookie year he had a record 275 yard game against the Minnesota Vikings. For that single performance he earned MVP at the age of 23 he was the youngest player ever to receive it! That year he rushed for 1852 yards including 14 touchdowns. For the next 13 years he continued to grow and by the end of his final year he had rushed for a total of 16,726 yards that is a NFL
