VARK Analysis

VARK Analysis This paper will describe the meaning of the acronym VARK and the purpose of the VARK questionnaire. I will provide a summary of my personal learning style as outlined by the results of my VARK questionnaire and I will compare my learning strategies to the strategies that are identified by my preferred learning style. Additionally, I will discuss how the awareness of individual learning styles influence teaching and learning.
What is VARK?
VARK is an acronym for one of the most common models of learning style. It was developed by an educator named Neil Flemming. The VARK Model, which was introduced in 2006, breaks learning styles down into four categories: Visual (V), Aural (A), Read/write

When in a classroom setting, it would be difficult to focus on one type of learning style and meet everyone’s needs. I feel a multimodal approach would best suit the needs of a class to touch upon styles that may benefit everyone. In contrast, if an instructor is meeting individually with a student, knowing the learning style of the student may allow for the instructor to employ different strategies to assist the student in learning the material. In conclusion, the VARK questionnaire can be a valuable tool to both learners and teachers. It is important for the teachers and the learners, when referencing the VARK results, to be aware that results are preferences and not strengths. Additionally, results indicate a general ‘rule of thumb’ and should be used as a guideline. (Flemming, 2011)

    During the VARK questionnaire that I took I scored an 11 on visual, aural, and read/write. The topic that I scored highest on was Kinesthetic and I scored a 12 on it. Kinesthetic is a learning tool that is hands-on approach. People that are kinesthetic are easily distracted by the activity that is going on.
