Unreasonable Stereotypes
Mackle more-Same Love
When I first heard this song it brought tears to my eyes. This song has not only beautiful lyrics, but also an amazing and powerful meaning behind it.
This text/song ‘Same Love” written by Mackle More made me realise that there is unreasonable stereotypes in society. The title ‘Same Love’ captures it very well, gay people love the same way straight people do. Even if you think of the word ‘Gay’ it means happy, they are happy loving the same sex.
Mackle more starts out the rap with a strong first stanza- ‘When I was in the third grade I thought that I was gay. Cause I could draw, my uncle was and I kept my room straight.” Not only did he recognize the fact there were pretty unreasonable stereotypes about people who like the same sex, but also that stereotypes are already invading the brains of the new generation at a very young age and how it’s influencing our society.
Also the chorus features the unbelievable beautiful voice of Mary lambert. The lyrics are so heart full “And I can’t change, even if I try, even if I wanted too. My love, my love, my love…. she keeps me warm, she keeps me warm.” By simply describing the feeling of warmth, Mary Lambert conveys love as it feels for any couple, straight or same sex. At the end of the song she chants “Love is patience, love is kind” returning to the subject of marriage.
The rap and chorus balance each other perfectly. Basically listen to the song and it will give you a reason of why we should support gay marriage. I see people who like the same sex no different from any other couple. The rap is the brain, while the chorus is the emotional heart of the

All though my parents never got a divorce I feel a connection with different pieces of the song and I thoroughly enjoyed the way he expressed his emotions throughout the song in words I would have never thought of using. The song is very vocal with a quite instrumental background that ties it all together, he uses so much emotion and power in his singing that it’s hard not to feel the same emotions he is feeling in this song. He talks about his parents fighting and him trying to keep them together which I feel like most children have tried to do when their parents are fighting.…

"That is so gay.” “You are such a faggot.” These are two phrases we hear fairly often in our everyday lives and do not really question what they are actually saying. Unless you have been living under a rock for the last few decades, you know the words gay and faggot are derogatory terms for people who are homosexual. Yet theses words are accepted as everyday vocabulary in America. Our society has become so immune to these words that we have forgotten what they mean and how they can affect people. In Macklemore’s song "Same Love” and his music video he addresses society's false preconceived notions on homosexuality, the use of hateful slurs in the music industry, and how we as a society need to stop ignoring the sexual equality movement and…

“You’re a faggot.” “Ew, that’s so gay.” Take a minute and think about how many times you hear these phrases on a daily basis. Slanderous terms like these are some among many other homophobic sayings that are used daily by people all over the world. Why is this? How have the terms ‘faggot’ and ‘gay’ become part of our daily vocabulary? How have these terms become synonymous with the terms ‘lame’ or ‘stupid’? With the youth of our world bred into constant hateful thoughts, the possibility for a positive outlook for our future generations is slim. Macklemore’s song and music video, Same Love, aims to point the youth in our society in a new and forward thinking direction. Macklemore, who is one of the most popular artists in today’s hip-hop industry, recognizes the issues within our society and uses his influence on people to help make a difference in the world. The goal of the song lyrics is to show Macklemore’s belief in supporting equality in the LGBT community and to also emphasize how important it is that people are respectful of and do not discriminate against them.…

Many people, even today feel as though morals should be included in everything that people do. Rap music has always had explicit language but 2 Live Crew was never vague and never felt that they had to cover anything up or make it sound more clean than it really was. They felt that the First Amendment backed them up and made it okay for them to say whatever it is they wanted to say. This text focuses on how people interpret the music rather than what it says. Many people interpret things different ways. People make assumptions of what words mean instead of studying these words.…

As well as raising awareness for the equality of homosexuals, the song also points out the fact that the word ‘’gay’’ is used as a derogative term in not just the music industry but also in the world, that the word “gay” has lost all its original meaning and is instead used in our everyday vocabulary because it has been embedded in our culture. (“We become so numb to what we’re saying” )…

I can fortunately and happily say that I personally have not experienced unequal treatment in regards to my chosen career, educational path or previously held jobs. What I do still see currently being stereotyped are gender roles and the way they are allowed or not allowed to sexually express themselves in the public eye. From my experience it is more acceptable for men to compose music about sex, be in main stream media selling sex, have successful careers in sex, and everyday unequal expectations in dating, sex and relationships. Men have more sexual freedom in the world today. Men are encouraged and in most cases applauded on the discussion of how many partners they have had in the past and the specifics of each experience, yet woman are still expected to hide their sex from the world in fear of ridicule and isolation.…

Mackelmore produced a short, bold film clip for his single, “Same Love”. The song is part of a partnership with the Music for Marriage Equality Campaign and sends out a beautifully powerful message about the issue of discrimination based on sexuality, gay rights, marriage equality and acceptance. Homosexuality isn’t something new to our society, however, gay marriage is new. While the gay community is still fighting for equality, it is important we consider the impact on the children of today. Part of the impact of same-sex marriage will be the…

But what sort of spontaneous emotions do we get from today's top rap track? Or, for that matter, what sort of emotions do we expect (though it wouldn't be spontaneous in that case)? To his credit, Maklemore's tracks are typically socially conscious. However, that's exactly why those other tracks about hot topics such as supporting same-sex marriages hardly even crack the Billboards top…

It is a part of human nature to make judgments on others based solely on appearances. The short story “Flight Patterns” by Sherman Alexie reveals the sheer pervasiveness of stereotypes in American culture. The main character, William, is a walking contradiction in that he is a Native American businessman that loves his job and is always traveling, but hates to fly and hates to leave his family. He is also a victim of discriminations, yet he too makes his own judgments on people. In this paper I am going to explore the theme of stereotypes and contradictions in the story, and argue that stereotypes are so ingrained into American society that those who are stereotyped do not even realize they are stereotyping others.…
