1. Understand the concept of professionalism and core professional values in the lifelong learning sector
1.1 Analyse key aspects of professionalism in the lifelong sector

Webster’s Dictionary defines professionalism as the conduct, aims or qualities that characterize or mark a professional person (1).
Meanwhile Oxford dictionary defines it as the practising of an activity, especially a sport, by professional rather than amateur players (2). From both definitions we can compare that each definitions has explained the qualities of person with their activities. At the root of professionalism is our profession. A profession requires acquisition and application of a body of knowledge and technical skills. The individuals in a profession are bound together by a shared commitment. Members of a profession regulate themselves. Finally, a profession has a contract with society.
2. What are the key aspects of professionalism in the lifelong learning sector? Refer to the following:
a. Code of Practice related to your subject area
The key aspect of professionalism refer to Code of practice in my teaching area of childcare, the concepts of professionalism have several challenges arise. Just presenting learners with lists of what is involved in professionalism may be daunting. Learners also have negative role models from the media to contend with. As the professional body for teachers, trainers, tutors and trainee teachers across the further education and skills sector, IfL has developed a code of professional practice. The code outlines the professional behaviours expected of IfL members for the benefit of learners, employers, the profession and the public (3)
b. Legislations related to your subject area

    It is important to continually improve the knowledge and practise in the setting as an on-going process and to ensure the high standards are kept continuously up to date as children and practioners change. It is important to make sure that your business, including your staff, customers and suppliers, is legally protected. This will be done by ensuring that you meet the statutory laws and regulations that affect your business. This needs to be done in a legal format.
