Uniform Crime Reporting Report: Decrease In Violent Crimes
In 2015, the FBI’s Uniform Crime reporting program showed an increase in violent crime for the first time in three years. Violent crime went up in 2015 3.9 percent over 2014. However, property crimes continued to decrease as the number of property crimes decreased 2.6 percent over 2014 (FBI: UCR, 2016). However, the National Crime Victimization Survey showed there was no significant increase in violent crime from 2014 to 2015, but, as reflected by the UCR, property crime victimization declined from 2014 to 2015 (Truman & Morgan, 2016). Throughout the 40-year history of the NCVS, both the UCR and the NCVS have generally demonstrated similar year-to-year increases or decreases in the levels of overall violent and property crimes.
