With robberies at that number for the year, it averages out to about 36 burglaries a day throughout the whole year for Chicago and an average of 21 burglaries for
Philadelphia a day. Now in 2013 the average amount of robberies were 11,815 which were an average of 32 robberies a day where Philadelphia had 7,562 with an average of 20 robberies a day. As far as the data shows Chicago had the highest crime rate for burglaries within the year of 2012, and 2013. Though Chicago and Philadelphia were very close in range for the amount of robberies committed within the year. By looking at population Chicago has much more than
Philadelphia does which means you will have a higher crime rate when there is more of a overpopulation. From one year to the next with both Chicago and Philadelphia it shows that the crime rates did go down with Chicago having a bigger decline on robberies than Philadelphia did. Crime is crime and it can happen anywhere but it seems as if there is a higher population in a city you are going to have higher crime rates. By having the Uniform Crime Report

My comparison was between Chicago and Philadelphia to see which one had a higher rates of robberies, and I found out that Chicago had the highest over the two years of data that I collected. Also when looking at both 2012 and 2013 in Chicago and Philadelphia the robbery rates did go down a little bit and that could be due to more patrolling in certain areas where the crime is higher, and by doing that will help control those areas and stop the crime from
Happening.

“Income Inequality, Race, and Place” does a study on if lower incomes create higher crime rates. The study proves that a person’s income can affect that individual willing to commit a crime. If you live in poverty you are most likely going to execute a murder or a robbery. Also, the study show that is you were a stable home owner the crime rates were not high. People who were not a homeowner and consistently moved are more likely to commit a crime in a neighborhood. There are more minority races living in poverty than the majority race. This article was conducted in 2007 using the census in 19 cities in 2000. The article helps me because the test was conducted in many cities. I do believe that more cities should be tested to receive more data.…

Is it a coincidence that highly urbanized areas are full of crime and always statistically higher than small towns and rural areas? A child that is being brought up in a metropolitan area that is full of violent crimes is flooded in a sense and has nothing to do but to breath in some of the negative influences that go on around him. Therefore, I believe that the most influential scene in a child's life is the neighborhood that he grows up in. Parents cannot constantly watch over their children, ask about whom they are hanging out with, constantly check where they are, and find out what they are getting themselves into? (Statistics p348)…

To Chicago went the doubtful distinction of having the most homicides—510; New York City, with approximately twice the population of Chicago, had 340. In twenty-eight of the leading cities the rate was 9.9 per 100,000, as against 11.0 in 1925. "Slight as it is, the reduction is encouraging," observes the collector of these statistics, Dr. Frederick L. Hoffman, writing in The Spectator, a New York City insurance journal. "But," he adds, "our murder record of approximately 12,000 persons each year is a most serious indictment of American civilization, and evidence of lawlessness which has no counterpart in any other country in the world." As if to confirm the statement, the Baltimore Sun finds that there were only 17 murders in London in 1926, and that there were arrests in 16 of the 17 cases. In Dr. Hoffman's statistics, we are reminded by the Baltimore paper, no distinction is made between degrees of murder and voluntary manslaughter and justifiable homicide. All are included in death by violence.…

    Chicago Gun Violence

Chicago has earned a lot of negative attention in recent years earning the infamous nickname “Chiraq” due to the high rate of gun violence. In 2014, thus far it has been 1,775 reported shootings in Chicago in which 252 were fatal. That is extremely high given the fact that the year isn’t over. Today is September 8th; which also means this is the 251st day in the year. That means someone, on average, was shot and killed every day of the year in Chicago. Those statistics do not even include non-gun related homicides. If I was to include those extra 48 homicides, the average deaths per day would be 1.2. If homicides were to continue at that rate, it could possibly be 436 murders by the end of the year. These numbers are very disturbing and hopefully something is done about that.…

It is a well-known fact that certain neighborhoods create more opportunity for crime, and criminal behavior. This is despite repeated turnovers in the composition of their populations. Take for instance the area called 5 points in downtown Denver, this area has had a high level of criminal activity ever since the first houses were built. The area lends itself to a high level of diverse traffic, and includes homeless shelters and daily workforce centers amongst the schools and head start programs in the neighborhood.…
