CHILD PROTECTION POLICY

1. Introduction  The governors and staff fully recognise the contribution the school makes, in partnership with other local agencies, to safeguarding children. We recognise that all staff, including volunteers, have a full and active part to play in protecting our pupils from harm and that everyone in the education service has an objective to keep children and young people safe. All staff and governors believe that our school should provide a caring, positive, safe and stimulating environment which promotes the social, physical and moral development of the individual child. Through its emphasis on prevention and early intervention, this policy aims to minimise the risks of children being abused.



There are two aspects to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children:   Arrangements to take all reasonable measures to ensure that risks of harm to children’s welfare are minimised. Arrangements to take all appropriate actions to address concerns about the welfare of a child, or children, working to agreed local policies and procedures in full partnership with other local agencies.

Our policy and procedures provide for both these aspects of safeguarding. The aims of this policy are to:    Provide a safe environment for children and young people to learn. Support the child’s development in ways that will foster security, confidence and independence. Raise the awareness of both teaching and support staff of the need to safeguard

    Safeguarding is a term used to replace what was previously known as Child Protection. It is an umbrella term that covers every aspect of looking after children and keeping them safe. Firstly, for all practitioners the most important aspect of safeguarding children is to ensure their safety in the setting in which they are being looked after. These come under the five legal Welfare Requirements which are set out by law. This ranges from supervising children at all times, ensuring contact with only suitable people, keeping documentation up to date, to ensuring equipment and toys comply with Health and Safety regulations, most importantly having the British Standard Safety kite mark, to risk assessing different activities and outings that will be undertaken. For the purpose of my professional conduct it is vital that I complete a full risk assessment of the rooms in my setting which will be registered by Ofsted. I will identify the risk, grade it as appropriate, decide on what control measures to put in place to help reduce the risk and review it.     Safeguarding children and young people also covers how we as practitioners implement safe working practices to protect both children, young people, their families and the adults who work with them.
