A Classification Essay: Types of Celebrity Fans For as long as entertainment has had celebrities, those celebrities have had fans. No matter who it is, whether it’s Brad Pitt or even Betty white, fans amass from all over the globe to get a single glimpse of their idols. Celebrities are flattered and honored to have this much love and devotion from complete strangers but the problem arises when they are mobbed at premieres or concerts by fans. Their amp up their protection because they can’t distinguish which fans simply want a photo with them, or which ones want to kidnap them and possibly hurt them with their misplaced affections. These fans are notoriously known as the psycho fans while their less harmful counterparts are deemed the normal fans. The normal fans, also known as the fanatics are somewhat of an enigma in the fandom world. This is partly due to the fact that all celebrity fans start off as normal fans, but it has become very rare that a fan remains in docile as the amount of devotion for the celebrity grows over time. The normal fans are generally the ones that don’t boast on their knowledge of the celebrity. They appreciate the celebrities work and even keep a picture or two of them on their phone and walls, but their adoration never borders on aggressive behaviors like the psycho fans. A normal fan attends the movies, concerts, and purchases minimum paraphernalia. For instance, a normal fan would see a celebrity and feel the excitement of being so close to them but they would not engage them aggressively as a compulsive psycho fan would. These are the fans that are able to take pictures with their celebrity idols and get their autographs if the time allows for it. They respect their personal space and will not engage them in an aggressive manner if the celebrity is not able to interact with them. This is how the normal fan behaves, very devoted but not bordering on insanity and not being able to function normal without that interaction.
