Two Strongest Personal Attributes
I haven’t had the opportunity to integrate the arts into my teaching practices yet. When given the chance to have my own classroom I hope to integrate the arts into every subject. Throughout my Elementary Arts Methods course, I learned how incredibly important and crucial it is to have the arts in the classroom as much as possible. Math and science can easily be turned into hands-on art projects. English can be represented and taught using multiple sources of art, visual and performing, to bring it to life. Art should be used to get student’s minds active and engaged in learning. Visual arts can be used to clarify thoughts and ideas, while the performing arts can increase confidence and make ideas tangible and more understandable for students. …show more content…
Describe your two strongest personal attributes. Give examples of how these attributes have helped you in your teaching practice.
One of my strongest attributes is my flexibility. My student teaching internship really put this to the test. My internship taught me that in an elementary school anything can happen. Teachers must be willing to change their lesson plans or daily schedule on a moment’s notice. Teachers have a responsibility to be as flexible as possible so that these sudden changes effect students minimally. Teachers also have the responsibility to be flexible in their lessons, or to accommodate the class when a lesson is veering a different direction than intended.
My other strong attribute is my determination. I take on any task given to me, no matter how big or small. I put my whole heart and effort into completing the task and do what I need to in order to finish my goals. I was confronted with many fears during my internship, but never once turned down an opportunity or task because of them. Determination doesn’t come with time limits, I stick to a task until it is completed. This has helped me be a successful teacher because my determination to have all lesson plans done by Friday allowed me to be prepared every week, even if it meant staying late on

Describe a difficult situation with a parent that you experienced. How did you resolve the situation?
I have not personally been in a difficult situation with a parent yet, but throughout my teaching internship I did have to make some tough phone calls to parents.
First, I had a student with difficult behavior problems. One day, during my lesson, this student was yelling out. When I handed out the assignment I went quietly over to this student’s desk to talk about why that was inappropriate behavior. While I was crouched down next to the student’s desk they pushed me over, I had to send the student to the principal’s office and had to make a hard phone call home. We had just had parent-teacher conferences and had discussed behavior improvements so this was a hard phone call home to make.
The second hard phone call I had to make was again due to student’s behavior. This student was caught stealing winter gear out of other student’s cubbies. We were aware this student did not have any snow gear for recess. We had called home prior and snow gear was not in their budget at this time. This was a particularly hard phone call because of the hard situation, but parents still need to be made aware.

I did an interview with a second grade teacher this week and decisions that she had to make. When I was asking her some of the question it was hard for her to answer because she thought she didn’t have any decisions she had to make. It was like it was so easy for her to do everything. So one of the questions I had to ask what are some examples of typical, quick decisions she had to make on a daily basis. She had a confused face and she had to think hard and she told me extra time on skills and the students behavior if they got into trouble they had to go to the office. The second one I asked her was what were five most difficult school-related decisions that she had to make this week and what made them difficult. The first one was students find out which students needs there RTI. Find out want they need to work on and want was there level they were at. RTI is Response to Intervention. It’s a program they have at the school to help students that cannot learn fast and having trouble understands their work. Then she had to think about some more and then she said finding time for differentiated Instruction and getting materials together. Some times its very hard to get everything that you need for the class to teaching and make sure you have everything and don’t forget anything when you have the students in the classroom she said sometimes she haves to do it when she takes the students to P.E. when she haves to start a new science curriculum-getting all the materials and the reviewing for the lessons can be hard to if she don’t have want she needs too. When she haves to find time to plan a lesion she haves to do that when the students go to lunch or…

Time management is one of the top reasons that made me continue to put going back to school off for a couple of years. No matter how many times I talked myself into it, I just couldn't see myself taking time away from my children and husband to spend in a classroom. However, by setting a schedule for certain things I am still able to enjoy the time with my family. “Balanced with the stress of the added responsibilities, students have reported spending time with their families as the biggest stress reducer” (Canales-Gonzales & Kranz, 2008).…

Sixth grade, the first year in the new middle school building. It was about the third week into school and a teacher came up to me and asked me to watch over this kid named Justin. (He was different from everyone else, he had a birth-defect.) I said sure, why not, he seems to be nice. He only had one friend, and that one friend I wouldn't say was a good one. Later that week I was called into the disciplinarian's office, her name was Mrs. Landry. She was the seventh grade Social Studies teacher. So wanted me to tell her everything that happened, I didn't what to tell her,…

I want to be an epitome of a truly honest man, and I believe my character strengths will help me achieve this goal. My bottom strengths were the love of learning, self-control, and regulation. I feel these strengths are just as important as my top strengths, and I need to maximize them all in order to become a great leader.
