Tuck Palmer Intro Book Summary
Skye Mumau
Quick Write
Palmer Intro I already have mixed feelings about this book. Although I have found a lot of truth in the introduction, on the second page Palmer states “If you are a teacher who never has bad days, or who has them but does not care, this book is not for you. This book is for teachers who have good days and bad, and whose bad days bring the suffering that comes only from something one loves. It is for teachers who refuse to harden their hearts because they love learners, learning and the teaching life.” I disagree with the point that Palmer is making. The Lord says we should never dwell on anything; You should not bring suffering into the classroom. I do not think that teachers who “never have bad days” are people

The book then unfolds on demonstrating a strong understanding of the individual’s feelings and emotions. He empathizes that counselors should be aware of themselves before counseling others on any situation. Since Dr. Wright uses biblical passages as examples in ministering others, he recommends that ministers use Jesus as an example on treating a crisis or trauma victim. He teaches to ministers that once the advice is given, it cannot be taken back. The individual is going through a traumatic event and if the words aren’t chosen correctly, it could have a drastic impact on their life. Counseling those in need require one to provide the individual with unconditional love and hope. Showing…

Mrs. Connie Dacus is a Health and Physical Education professor at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. Professor Dacus became a teacher because she saw early on the impact a teacher can have on molding a person’s character. Professor Dacus says that “A teacher spends the majority of his or her day helping you become the best person you can be often with little or no reward but perseveres because of that passion for teaching”. What excites Professor Dacus about her work is seeing the dynamics associated with the final product of learning and teaching. She believes that the values and beliefs associated with teaching must center around what you know to be true which can be based on personal experiences from childhood or through life’s lessons.…

This book has easily become one of the top books I have read as a Liberty University student since the principles that it includes are extremely applicable. Immediately after I had read about “The Law of the Learner,” I repented of how I used to think. Because I was lazy, I would put the blame on the student if he or she were failing, rather than striving to work harder and learn different ways I could create learners. However, after reading Wilkinson’s writings and stories, I desired to be a teacher who would not tolerate students who are not paying attention. Namely, I would do whatever it takes to have students learn, rather than blaming them for not learning. In addition, while I read “The Law of Expectations,” I reminisced of a student pastor actively…

Through the course of five weeks I have tutored a third grader by the name of Willy one hour each Thursday. Willy is a high-spirited kid who loves to learn. He goes to a school named Corpus Christi, a school I spent my sixth through eighth grade years at, and is also the organization I volunteered for. I chose this particular work because I love working with kids considering I have 4 younger brothers and sisters. This also gave me an opportunity to put my knowledge to good use and to be a good role-model towards Willy. What I gained from this experience is satisfaction from helping a young student cope with his academic struggles and learn to surpass them in order to be successful. I most definitely would do this project again if I had the chance.…
