Connie Dacus
Mrs. Connie Dacus is a Health and Physical Education professor at Alabama State University in Montgomery, Alabama. Professor Dacus became a teacher because she saw early on the impact a teacher can have on molding a person’s character. Professor Dacus says that “A teacher spends the majority of his or her day helping you become the best person you can be often with little or no reward but perseveres because of that passion for teaching”. What excites Professor Dacus about her work is seeing the dynamics associated with the final product of learning and teaching. She believes that the values and beliefs associated with teaching must center around what you know to be true which can be based on personal experiences from childhood or through life’s lessons.
Professor Dacus believes that her role as a teacher is to always be prepared, to seek the best that each student brings to the table, and to meet them where they are academically, emotionally, and socially standing. Professor Dacus believes that it takes a village to raise a child and everyone from the cafeteria worker to the custodian plays a role in the molding of characters. All parties are obligated to insure a safe and nurturing environment that is beneficial to learning from the moment they enter the building until they exit at the end of the day.
